Belle Garcia – God Is Such A Stubborn Woman

Belle Garcia2

The longer version starts with a ghost. This mini-album picks up where an older song of Belle’s, “Malibu Waters,” left off, right after a girl kills off the hopeless-romantic, wide-eyed-optimist version of herself on a beach in Malibu to free herself from a world that never let her speak. God Is Such a Stubborn Woman follows the ghost she leaves behind, stuck in a liminal purgatory, finally face to face with everything she was never allowed to say.

God Is Such a Stubborn Woman

It’s a record about female resilience that flat-out refuses to do one feeling at a time. Heartbreak, grief, delusion, longing, and a lot of dark humour all show up in the same breath, because that’s how it actually feels. Belle tells it from a witty, self-aware, painfully honest place, flipping the script from “the girl everyone labels” to the girl who says it out loud.

The record came out of a strange heartbreak, one that turned out to be less about a person than about mourning the version of the world she’d believed in, and the grief of moving her whole life across an ocean. Writing it was how she connected the dots: going back through what happened, making sense of why she reacted the way she did, and finally explaining it to herself.

Belle Garcia was a writer before she was anything else. A kid with a typewriter in the early 2000s, she published her first book at eight, years before she’d touch an instrument. Born in Mexico City and now based in London, she came to music at 11 through keyboard and singing lessons and kept collecting instruments from there. In her early teens she chased a different kind of spotlight, auditioning for Disney and other Hollywood roles, but songwriting and production were what really stuck.

What really sets her apart isn’t only the songs, it’s everything around them. Belle is a storyteller first, and that never changed. She builds whole worlds where the chords, the lyrics, the videos, even the social media content are all part of one bigger story. Nothing’s random. She doesn’t stop at a “pretty song” or a “cool shot” and call it done; she keeps going until every piece fits the world.

That instinct comes from a life spent on both sides of the glass. Away from her own project, Belle is a producer and engineer who’s worked with artists in development, some you might know, and has engineered for a GRAMMY-winning vocalist, with her work featured in ADRENALINE Magazine (UK), Somos Grandes (Spain), and Women In Music (USA).
