Purple Negative – Swimmer

Latvian alternative rock band Purple Negative presents their new melancholic single “Swimmer” accompanied by an animated music video.

“Swimmer” was born out of an emotionally turbulent spring. Lyricist Elīza Daine describes the inspiration behind it: “Physical and emotional pain – heartbreak and sports injuries. Seeking comfort in bodies of water and accepting a new identity.”

The song features experiments with the interplay between a violin bow and electric guitar, as well as a base layer of acoustic guitar – a previously unexplored sound for Purple Negative.

The song’s atmosphere is brought to life through a hand-drawn 2D animated music video created by locally acclaimed emerging director Andrejs Brīvulis.

Purple Negative is an alternative rock band from Riga, Latvia, that has been actively performing across the Baltics and Northern Europe since 2018. The band has gained recognition with their EP Happy and their 2024 album Megabee, the latter earning them several local music award nominations (Zelta Mikrofons, GAMMA, Austras Balva).

Purple Negative members are Roberts Gromovs, Elīza Daine, Kristaps Zaļenieks, and Rūdolfs Mikus Stelps.
