MACEDO – Do You Believe Me Now?

Macedo by Pop Portraits

Today, indie-pop duo MACEDO, (twin sisters Michelle and Melissa Macedo), released their new single + video “Do You Believe Me Now?,” an upbeat feminist anthem that explores a look back at college harassment post the MeToo movement. The track is a call to action for anyone with their own story to tell.

Michelle Macedo expands, “This story is about a college experience of intrusion and harassment. After looking back after the MeToo movement and on the heels of Title IX, it’s a reflection of a scary experience we had shortly after starting college. On our own and independent for the first time, we too quickly discovered the realities of a world that consistently fails to protect women in situations where they are unsafe on campus. This song comments on the fact that oftentimes, when the damage has been done and is allowed to keep continuing by people in power, it is too late when we are later vindicated in others finally saying out loud this person is a danger to women.”

Multiracial twin sisters Michelle and Melissa Macedo have carved out a distinctive niche in entertainment as multi-hyphenate artists, seamlessly balancing successful careers in both music and screen performance. Their unique creative bond and commitment to inclusive storytelling have positioned them as rising stars to watch across multiple entertainment sectors.

Beyond their screen accomplishments, Michelle and Melissa have achieved remarkable success as the musical duo MACEDO. Their 2023 breakthrough single “Stronger Now” became an anthemic centerpiece that soared to #1 on KROQ’s Locals Only, broke into the Top 50 on the U.S. Pop Radio Charts, and was handpicked for Train Tracks – Sirius XM’s influential new music spotlight hosted by Pat Monahan of Train.

The success of their Paradise EP was further underscored by a feature cover story in Pasadena Weekly, cementing MACEDO as one of L.A.’s most distinctive and dynamic musical acts.

The duo has built an impressive discography including the full-length Flags & Boxes, the Paperdoll EP, and 2018’s Ghost Town, while also joining Anna Akana on tour. Their creative evolution continued with 2023’s “Block of Ice,” a vibrant, genre-blurring single produced by Jules Duke that channeled influences like Wet Leg and Tom Tom Club.

MACEDO’s commitment to advocacy shines through releases like “Optimistic,” a radiant LGBTQIA+ anthem celebrating queer joy and self-love, produced by Wolves and Jules Duke with a vibrant music video directed by rising filmmaker Maggie Levin. Their collaboration “Wanted Woman” with Anna Akana earned them a spot on Billboard’s Queer Artists to Watch list and a feature in Nylon. In early 2020, the sisters signed with Pasadena Records, collaborating with producer Chris Chu on releases like “Can’t Imagine,” which pairs warm acoustic guitar with luminous, chant-like harmonies.

In 2025, Michelle and Melissa took a bold creative leap with Thinestra, a darkly comedic body horror film making its world premiere at the prestigious Raindance Film Festival in London. In this provocative and genre-defying feature, the sisters portray two halves of one woman undergoing a grotesque psychological transformation after taking a mysterious Ozempic-like drug. The band also recorded an EP, A Very Scary Christmas, which was featured in the film.

MACEDO are excited to share their eagerly awaited new music that explores themes in the lane of Lily Allen with the upbeat shimmering synths and sisterly connections of HAIM. The duo are thrilled to enter a new era and step into their feminist ferocity.
