The Secret Plan – Word Weapons

The Secret Plan by Sarah Buchsbaum2

Houston’s The Secret Plan announce their eviscerating new EP Word Weapons, with the single “I Am She / U Are Dog.”

This song came out of a really ugly breakup. Once the sadness started wearing off, I got pretty ferocious about taking my personhood back. What started as a reaction to one person’s dumb ass decisions turned into something bigger:  a song about reclaiming yourself and taunting the patriarchy with pleasure. – Elena Karaytcheva, The Secret Plan

The Secret Plan is a Houston-based punk band known for loud, chaotic live performances with blown-out guitars, heavy rhythms, and biting, unhinged lyrics. Originally rooted in a more psychedelic direction, The Secret Plan has evolved into something harsher, faster, and more unpredictable, earning attention in Houston’s underground music scene for performances that are sweaty and out of control.

Word Weapons

Their upcoming EP, Word Weapons, calls the U.S. out like the abusive partner that it is. Fronted by vocalist Elena Karaytcheva, the band combines punk, garage rock, and psychedelic noise into something urgent, confrontational, and impossible to ignore. Hailing from a country whose government could care less about the poor, does not respect women nor the lives of immigrants, and encourages ignorance and bigotry with hostile aggression, The Secret Plan wrote Word Weapons as a refusal to shut up and take it. On songs like “I Am She / U Are Dog,” Karaytcheva taunts the patriarchy with snarling sarcasm, while “Moderndaze” is both a lament for the damage done and a call to action. Throughout Word Weapons, frustration, anger, and resentment are front and center.

Out August 21st, the band plans to only get louder, spending the rest of the year doing what they do best: playing live shows and writing songs that cut through the noise.

Upcoming performances:

June 20th – Houston, TX @ Lez Fest

July 25th – Houston, TX @ Houston’s Battle of the Bands at Raventower.
