Lily Meola – Daisies

Today, Maui-born, emerging country force Lily Meola released her bittersweet new single “Daisies.”
The track is the latest to be unveiled from her anticipated debut album Lucky to Be, due out July 17th through Nettwerk Music Group.

Over a bed of gentle steel guitar and ethereal acoustic with sharp, prickly vocals, “Daisies” draws inspiration from the mainstream country hit “Flower Shop” by Ernest as Meola puts her own spin on receiving flowers from a lover who sometimes misses his mark but is determined to improve.
“I remember hearing ‘Flower Shop’ for the first time and thinking it was genius, and I really related to the lyrics,” stated Meola. “I wanted to write this song from the woman’s perspective, because it feels very similar to some things that I’ve been through.”
“Daisies” follows Meola’s previously released track “You and I,” a vintage-twanged reflection on the serendipitous nature of love and the simple odds of existence.
On Lucky to Be, Meola celebrates all the universal dots that had to be connected to make her the person that she is: a Hawaii native, a beloved daughter, a protégé of Willie Nelson, a mentee of Jackson Brown and Grammy-winning producer Bob Rock, and a stunning rising vocalist praised by the likes of Whiskey Riff as “one of the most promising names in country music.” The odds of encountering someone like Meola are themselves fantastical. She is a true bohemian artist, a woman shaped by the verdant, ancient nature in which she was raised on Maui and the eclectic people, from her free-spirited mom to a country music legend, who surrounded her. She is both a hippie and a fashion plate; she has a pet deer named “Doenut.” All of those facets inform Lucky to Be, an album of smart indie-country with a discernible Western flair.
“While writing the songs that became Lucky to Be, I came across this statistic that said the chances of you being born are one in 400 trillion. That stopped me in my tracks,” Meola says. “It made me realize the chances of simply being alive are so slim. And despite all the good and bad things I’ve had thrown my way, I’m lucky to be experiencing it. We all are.”
Lauded for her organic blend of country-laced twang, Americana atmosphere, and hook-driven pop that “lies somewhere in the intersection of dreampop and soulful folk” (Rolling Stone), Lily Meola has been crafting her signature, genre-defying sound since age 11. She was raised on what she calls “old Seventies gems,” devouring albums by Carole King, Cat Stevens, and her personal favorite songwriter Joni Mitchell. But Meola isn’t a throwback artist. With a steady stream of singles and EPs, she’s garnered over 300 million streams and over 1 million monthly listeners, while touring with artists such as Stephen Wilson Jr., Lukas Nelson, Ray Lamontagne, and Stephen Sanchez. After going through what she calls “different cycles” on her musical journey, Meola is lucky enough to have found her voice on Lucky to Be. It’s a country one, with hints of pop and even some dramatic spaghetti western vibes.
