untitled freak – insincerity

Ali Genevich by Mars Alba

untitled freak releases “insincerity,” the third single off their upcoming debut EP, 7 circles.

untitled freak is the solo project of Ali Genevich of the band Laveda. Laveda’s recording cycle ended in fall 2024. After the close of this long creative chapter, a low-stakes moment of musical exploration led to writing the title track in a single sitting. Writing the songs without anyone else’s input allowed Ali the creative freedom to create while submerged in a flow state. “Untitled Freak” is a perfect example of this. Captured through a minimal setup—a tiny Crate amp and a Beyerdynamic Soundstar MK-2—the recording took on a raw, intimate weirdness that immediately felt like a self-introduction. The name untitled freak stuck because it echoed the feeling of finally meeting a part of herself that had been waiting to emerge.

Where previous singles functioned as moments of emotional release and creative awakening, “insincerity” sits in what follows—quieter, heavier, and more unresolved. On “insincerity,” restraint does the heavy lifting. The song unfolds in slow, deliberate motions—guitars circling themselves, drums holding back just enough to keep tension suspended. Clarity never fully arrives. Instead, repetition becomes its own confession, creating a sense of emotional dislocation that lingers beneath the surface. It feels less like a statement than an admission overheard.

On “insincerity” Ali shares, “Insincerity is a release of things I never said to someone that I wish I did. It’s hyper specific to be completely honest, but I’d rather not talk about it in detail. There was this “fuck you” letter inside me for way too long. I was afraid of feelings getting hurt, so naturally I pushed everything down and decided I didn’t need to say anything. Years later it revealed itself in the mic. Everything I’ve ever pushed down and forgotten about usually finds its way to the surface again when I’m on a mic. It feels good.”

A steady, loping beat anchors the track as slowcore finger-picking opens space for spoken-word vocals that drift across the introduction rather than settling into it. The bass quietly carries the melody, shaping the song’s emotional center, while the drums gradually tighten and begin to drive the pulse forward. Ali Genevich’s repeating hook—“I wish I could go real fast / I wish I could make it last”—returns like a mantra, capturing the song’s central tension between urgency and suspension. Beneath it all, an ominous string-driven drone weaves a counter-melody, adding a low, persistent unease that never fully resolves.

It further defines untitled freak not as a one-off project, but as an evolving body of work built on patience, intuition, and emotional precision.
