Hotel Fiction – Emmaline
Last month, Athens, GA duo Hotel Fiction announced they’ll release a deluxe version of their 2024 sophomore album Staring at the Sun on February 27th and today they’re back with the latest tease, the breathtaking “Emmaline.”
Pristine finger-plucked guitar and crystal clear vocals ground “Emmaline,” as the duo sing about Emmaline, a girl who holds her emotions close to her heart.
“Emmaline lights up every room and is a warming presence to those around her. Yet, you can sense a deep sadness she won’t share with the world,” shares the band. “Just like the sun which sets, her demons come out to play at night. You are her closest confidant and want desperately for her to be happy, and you assure her everything will be fine.”
Across the deluxe, which features 4 new tracks, Jade and Jess’s deep friendship and musical telepathy is on full display. “We know each other’s musical language, like it’s a second language,” says Thompson. “It’s always felt like we kind of have the same brain when it comes to music,” adds Jade. Whether it be complex stacks of shimmering harmonies, penetrating lyrics, or nostalgic melodies on glistening guitars, they write music that’s intensely relatable and timeless.
What started as the musical partnership of two students at the University of Georgia in 2018 turned into a best-friendship and kinetic sonic partnership. Their breakout single “Astronaut Kids” amassed over 2M streams and led to four years of heavy touring – supporting bands like Beach Fossils, flipturn, hey, nothing., among others.
With the announcement last month, the band shared the album’s first new addition, an acoustic version of their single “Sunrise (Acoustic).” A stripped back and emotional listen from start to finish, the acoustic track emphasizes the striking beauty of their vocal harmonies and poignant lyrics.
