Bird – The Boy and The Swan

Award-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist BIRD (Janie Price) releases her new single “The Boy and The Swan”, available now on all major streaming platforms.

The track is the latest release from her forthcoming second EP, Strange As Folk, due later this year.

Written in collaboration with Belgian artist Aqua Riyaz, “The Boy and The Swan” explores themes of identity, power, and vulnerability through a deeply personal yet universal lens.

“I didn’t originally write ‘The Boy and The Swan’ for myself,” says BIRD. “I had the bones of an idea in a notebook and was introduced to the brilliant Aqua Riyaz, who shared stories about his experiences growing up. That helped shape the song. While it was written for him, the message feels universal — whether it’s about personal stories or looking at how certain countries are bullying each other right now. It feels unfortunately relevant.”

The accompanying video was filmed in Denmark and directed by BIRD’s longtime collaborator and performance artist Jørgen Callesen (aka Miss Fish) at Warehouse 9 in Copenhagen — a celebrated creative space supporting marginalized artists. An outspoken LGBTQ+ activist, Callesen’s involvement adds another layer of meaning to the project. “So here’s to all the Swans out there,” BIRD adds.

Known for her ethereal vocals and genre-defying compositions, BIRD creates immersive soundscapes built around finger-plucked ukulele and banjo, cinematic textures, and her unmistakable voice.

“The Boy and The Swan” follows the success of BIRD’s critically acclaimed EP Heads or Tales, and continues the rollout of singles from Strange As Folk.

In addition to her music releases, BIRD recently completed her second short film, You Found a Friend in Elvis, which she wrote, directed, and composed. The documentary explores a surreal story involving rock-and-roll legends Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley, a dead body, and a band of thieves. The film is currently screening at festivals worldwide and has received its first nomination for Best Documentary at the UK-based Bay Festival.

BIRD has also just finished mixing the final tracks for her upcoming studio album Welcome To The Show, co-written with John Paul White (The Civil Wars) and Hal Lindes (Dire Straits), and produced by legendary producer Mike Hedges (Travis, The Cure).

Between releases and post-production, BIRD will be touring across North America with confirmed dates throughout 2026, following successful performances during SXSW in Austin and a showcase at AmericanaFest Nashville in 2025.
