Spellling ft Weyes Blood – Destiny Arrives
Earlier this year, SPELLLING (aka Chrystia Cabral) released her new album, Portrait of My Heart via Sacred Bones.
Today, SPELLLING unveils a new version of the “Destiny Arrives”, featuring Weyes Blood, the musical project of Natalie Mering, who comments: “The strange fantastical universe Tia’s built under the moniker SPELLLING has always captivated me, and when she asked me to sing on ‘Destiny Arrives’ I was there for the ride.”
On working with Mering, SPELLLING says, “Weyes Blood has been a dream artist to collaborate with for a long time now. I’m so honored to have her timeless voice on this reimagined version of ‘Destiny Arrives.’ She stepped into the song so gracefully and added such an epic glow to the feeling of the song through her own lyrical contribution and very intimate interpretation of the song.”
On Portrait of My Heart, Cabral’s fourth album as SPELLLING, she transforms her acclaimed avant-pop project into a mirror. She fearlessly draws the curtain back on parts of herself that she’s never included in SPELLLING before—her feelings of being an outsider, her overly guarded nature, the way she can throw herself recklessly into intimate relationships and then cool on them just as quickly. “It’s very much an open diary of all those sensations,” she says. There’s a real generosity in that, as listeners may recognize themselves in Portrait of My Heart in a way they haven’t on past albums. It’s the sharpest, most direct SPELLLING album to date.
