Dessa – Tough Call, Camelot

Dessa by Athel Rogers

Doomtree Records has released Dessa’s newest two-song project Tough Call, Camelot.

Tough Call Camelot

The track “Tough Call” will make its radio debut on The Current, one of the nation’s largest public radio music stations.

The lead single “Camelot” (released on October 10th) offers a footnote-able critique of American culture that manages to be clever and earnest—a smart addition to any Election Day playlist. Find the project on all major streaming platforms; a limited-edition 7″ vinyl is available online via doomtree.net and at select U.S. record stores.

The song “Tough Call” is both badass and bittersweet, and flexes Dessa’s skills as both lyricist and producer. It features a guitar line by Sakhe Maputo, recorded into Dessa’s iPhone in Cape Town, South Africa. (Dessa’s tour with the South African group 29:11 was cancelled earlier this year when the State Department denied the necessary visas.) It also benefits from bass master Ian Allison. (If you know a bass nerd, they almost certainly know Ian.)

Dessa produced the project with additional production from Lazerbeak (Lizzo, Doja Cat) and Andy Thompson (Taylor Swift, Celine Dion). The accompanying live-action lyric video was created by Adam Dunn (Emmy-Award winning motion designer, part of the Oscar-winning team on Spider-Man: into the Spider-Verse).  Jake Luck designed the artwork for the project; the cover photo was shot by photographer Athel Rogers in a studio just outside Washington, D.C.

Dessa will tour select cities in support of the project:

Friday, December 12, 2025: Wooly’s, Des Moines, IA

Saturday, December 13, 2025: Atwood Music Hall, Madison, WI
