Gab Ferreira – Seu Olhar

Today, Gab Ferreira — the São Paolo-based singer, songwriter, and model — shares the second single, “Seu Olhar,” from her forthcoming album Carrossel, a new album of dreamily rendered and alluringly strange psychedelic pop due out October 10 via DVLPMNT / Balaclava Records.
“Seu Olhar” is scribed in her native language Portuguese as the rapt nature of her vocals convey the feeling of being trapped in a loved one’s gaze. A line roughly translates to: “if you give me reasons to accompany you, I’ll drop everything, I’ll go on an adventure with you,” and you can hear that deep desire in the way Ferreira tugs at each line in the song — no matter what language you speak.
Of “Seu Olhar,” Gab says, “‘Seu Olhar’ was such a fun song to make. I wanted something with a brighter, playful energy; something that’s all about feeling good and a little adventurous, like trying new things with someone. It feels like the perfect road-trip song, the kind of track you put on when you’re exploring and making memories together.”

Joining various streams of Brazilian music (bossa nova, Tropicália, and the country’s thriving modern indie scene) with influences from trip-hop, Japanese psych rock, and electronic music, Carrossel is a visionary transmission from a restless musical mind. Throughout ten tracks sung in Portuguese and English, Ferreira radiates a meditative warmth, in awe at the mysteries of nature and the never-ending possibilities of sound.
Carrossel is inspired by the close observation of what Ferreira describes as “codes from nature” — everything from the spirals in shells to the configuration of rocks in the sand — as well as her studies of Buddhism and pagan theology. Propelled by a desire to connect with nature’s divine essence, she eschewed her typical electronic processes in favor of a more organic approach, centering live instrumentation and in-the-room sound as she built up songs initially written on just guitar or piano.
