NYC-born, LA-based singer, songwriter and producer Ally Bakst unveils the official music video for ‘Pretty Little Ghost’, transforming her dark, atmospheric alt-pop single into a surreal psychological thriller exploring identity, distorted memories and the unsettling boundaries between dreams and nightmares.
Arriving as the single surpasses one million streams, the video showcases Bakst’s uncompromising creative vision. Released independently through her own Bakst Records, the ambitious production was brought to life with a small team of creative friends, without major-label backing or AI-generated visuals.
At its centre is a dollhouse built entirely by Ally herself, representing her subconscious, where memories, fantasies and nightmares collide. Drawing inspiration from 2010s Tumblr aesthetics, the video blends childhood nostalgia with disturbing imagery, following Ally as she awakens inside the house and encounters a series of eccentric characters and increasingly surreal scenarios.
As familiar rooms take on darker meanings, the narrative builds towards a chaotic house party before culminating in a final twist that calls everything into question. Working alongside director and co-creative director EVERS, Ally developed the treatment from the ground up, carefully mapping every character, camera movement, look and symbolic detail. Carlos Ramirez served as executive producer, helping bring the elaborate concept to life.
The visual expands on the psychological themes of ‘Pretty Little Ghost’, a powerful fusion of dark alternative pop and electronic production exploring dissociation, fractured identity and the tension between control and surrender.
“I often feel like I’m watching myself live rather than fully living, constantly caught between craving control and the freedom that comes with letting go completely,” Ally previously explained. “‘Pretty Little Ghost’ explores that sense of identity blur, it’s unclear if I’m the one haunting or being haunted, if I’m the dream or the nightmare.”
A multidisciplinary artist working across music production, creative direction, photography, painting and set design, Ally has built a distinctive identity around immersive storytelling and hands-on creativity. Her growing momentum has also translated online, with her Instagram following more than doubling to over 150,000 in the past month.
