Maiya Blaney – for you

New York City-based producer, songwriter, and vocalist Maiya Blaney shares new single “for you.” The track arrives days ahead of her new EP Mary bed, releasing this Friday, October 30th via Lex Records, and marks its second single following the previously shared “everneed.”
Mary bed is six tracks of expansive and thoughtful songs about yearning from Blaney off the back of her noise project vulver released earlier this summer.

Mary bed is the follow up to Blaney’s album A Room With A Door That Closes released last year, which included the singles “Fumbled,” “Honey I,” and “Recognize Me,” introducing Blaney’s cerebral sound to the world. A Room With A Door That Closes was created with Emerson Fossett (ideasforconversations) Alex Farrar (MJ Lenderman, Wednesday, Snail Mail), Harlan Steed (Show Me the Body) and. A Room With A Door That Closes is a collection of songs that rigorously pursue honesty, that present feelings as they arise without rushing to categorize them or explain them away. In the process of understanding her rage or discomfort, Blaney often lands on a sense of pride and assurance, but that’s never the ultimate goal. She eschews the easy comfort of neat resolution for the excitement of ongoing discovery.
Since 2019, Blaney has been releasing music lacquered with emotion. 2021 saw the release of her album 3, which meditated on neo-soul and R&B sonics. With her new material, Blaney fully dives into her unsavory feelings of anxiety and unease, creating a tumultuous and intricate sound where drum n bass weaves with droning guitars, blips of glitch ping pong against grating synth, and Blaney’s vocals range from searing punk exclamations to gentle, exploratory croons.
On November 4th, Maiya will be performing in London at Ormside Projects.
