Fenne Lily – Win Win

Brooklyn-based English songwriter Fenne Lily releases her fourth studio album, Win Win, via Nettwerk Music Group.

A deeply personal and quietly triumphant record, Win Win transforms the aftermath of heartbreak into a story of self-discovery, resilience, and the reclamation of one’s sense of self. Earlier this week she released the video for “Stranger Things.”
The record begins in heartbreak. Shortly after moving from England to New York, Fenne was broken up with over the phone on Independence Day and spent the following month writing thousands of words a day as she worked through the loss. Slowly, the city started to feel like home. She made music with friends in the Hudson Valley, fell in love again, and began writing the songs that became Win Win from a place of warmth and renewal. “I wanted to make music that sounded like the sun was out,” says Fenne.
The album’s title comes from a question her father asked: “What do you feel like you’ve won?” Her answer: what she didn’t lose. Win Win reckons with the end of a relationship and the loss of a beloved pet, but through it all, Fenne holds on to her integrity. The result explores the grit it takes to stay honest and whole, and it features some of her most assured songwriting to date.
Fenne wrote and recorded Win Win over a year and a half of snowstorms, heat waves, apartment moves, and unexpected interruptions. She worked with longtime bandmates from England alongside new friends in New York, capturing much of the album live and some of it to tape. As time passed, the songs grew and shifted in meaning along with her. None shifted more than “Stranger Things,” the album’s latest single, which arrived alongside an official music video shot on the waters of Puget Sound in Seattle, Washington.
“I thought the title would expand my listenership to include people looking for the Stranger Things soundtrack,” Fenne jokes. “The title actually came before the song, inspired by something else my dad said when I was going through it. He reminded me that everything you find and miss is proof that there are more brilliant things out there. That you’re lucky to find one, and you will again.”
Fenne celebrates the release with intimate shows in Los Angeles, New York, and the UK through December, ahead of her spring headline tour. “These shows are birthday parties for the record before we hit the road proper,” she says. “This album was made by people playing live in a room and should be celebrated in the same way.”
