Briet – Last Dance

Bríet–one of Iceland’s most celebrated and fast-rising young artists, known for her effortless ability to move between intimate ballads and infectious pop–today shared her luminous, dancefloor-ready new single “Last Dance” amidst a North American tour supporting Daði Freyr.
With her honest songwriting, magnetic live presence, and precise pop instinct, Bríet has built a devoted audience at home–collaborating with some of Iceland’s leading artists and selling out major venues like Reykjavík’s Harpa–and established herself as one of the defining voices of a new generation of Icelandic music. The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s 2020 debut LP Kveðja was a landmark release, earning her Album of the Year, Singer of the Year, and Lyricist of the Year at the 2021 Icelandic Music Awards.
Of the new Lárus Arnar Arnarson-produced track, Bríet explains:
“‘Last Dance’ is about that moment in your life when you realize you just have to go. You don’t necessarily know where you’re going, or whether it’s the right direction, but something inside you keeps calling you forward. I wanted to capture what it feels like to trust that instinct so completely that you’re willing to leave everything familiar behind—even the people you love—and step into the unknown. You just have to start walking and trust that you’ll figure it out along the way. And once you finally take that leap, there’s something incredibly peaceful about it. You stop questioning whether you should have stayed. You’re simply following your gut and doing it your way.
There’s a little nod to Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ in that idea. At least I followed my instinct instead of living with the feeling that I should have tried. That’s what ‘Last Dance’ is about for me. Saying goodbye, having one last dance, and then leaving to follow your light.”
In November 2025, Bríet formally introduced herself to international audiences with her first English language release, an EP titled Bríet – Act I. The first chapter of a three-part project exploring different sides of her artistry, Act I finds Bríet leaning into Americana, country, and roots influences while retaining the pop sensibility that defines her work. The trilogy will continue with Act II–which explores a more dramatic world of heartbreak, ballads, and raw emotion–before Act III showcases a bolder and poppier sound. For Bríet, the three acts are more than a series of releases: they are an invitation to get to know her, one chapter, mood, and version of herself at a time.
Bríet will perform next at Denver’s Summit Music Hall on October 20th and also has an upcoming show at Los Angeles’ The Wiltern on October 30th.
