IVY FLINDT – Welcome To L.A.

IVY FLINDT by Peter Hönnemann2

Hamburg art-house pop duo IVY FLINDT return with “Welcome to L.A.,” the first single from their forthcoming EP, Sphinx.

Produced by Grammy Award-winning Danton Supple (Coldplay, Nick Cave, Amy Macdonald), the cinematic track is equal parts eerie and enchanting, capturing the allure and disillusionment of chasing dreams in Los Angeles.

Blending lush melodies, evocative lyrics, and cinematic soundscapes, IVY FLINDT have built an international following through emotionally resonant songwriting and immersive performances. Their debut album, In Every Move, was produced by Per Sunding (The Cardigans) and mastered by Björn Engelmann, earning critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone describing the band’s sound as “a pop song cast in silver.” The duo has since brought its live performances to audiences across Europe and North America, earning a reputation for intimate, emotionally rich live shows.

“The first morning in Los Angeles I woke up with this melody in my head,” vocalist and songwriter Cate Martin recalls of the initial inspiration for “Welcome to L.A.” “We had a rough start to the city, introducing us straight away to the struggle which seems to come with chasing your dreams. I could feel it in every corner of the city, I could see it in everybody’s eye.”

Multi-instrumentalist Micha Holland explains the sonic vision behind the track: “I wanted to create a sound that feels both classic and modern at once,” he says. “I played every instrument on the recording, shaping an atmosphere where every musical detail supports the emotional tension in Cate’s story.”

Supple, who produced the entirety of Sphinx, praises IVY FLINDT’s meticulous approach to songwriting and world-building.

“You can tell they really think about what they’re doing — the whole image and the story connected around Cate’s lyrics,” Supple notes. “And it’s about creating a backdrop that supports that story.”
