The Army, The Navy – Fake Brave Life

The Army, The Navy share a rare, cosmic connection throughout their debut album Fake Brave Life out today on Independent Co. Angelic harmonies, lush arrangements and stunning storytelling are the heart of their most existential and intention project to date.

“We’re incredibly excited to finally share this body of work. These songs have been years in the making, and it’s a surreal feeling to see them out in the world,” they note. “We’re so grateful for our fans and for the amazing producers, writers, and musicians who helped bring this album to life. Fake Brave Life feels like the start of a new chapter for us, the first of many records to come, and we’re looking forward to everything that lies ahead.”
With their tender focus track “Stars Stay Awake,” Maia Ciambriello and Sasha Goldberg reflect on the end of an emotionally charged relationship they describe as “two powerful forces combating each other.”
The track begins with a delicately plucked guitar riff before blossoming into soaring instrumentation as they come to terms with their decision to part ways.
Growing up in the Bay Area, Maia and Sasha were familiar with each other’s existence but it wasn’t until their time as undergraduates at Loyola University at New Orleans studying songwriting where they really connected. In a city rich with cultural history, The Army, The Navy took shape without a plan in mind. As roommates, the duo worked on songs individually–Maia in one corner of the room, Sasha in the other–but eventually they were drawn to one another’s process, combining ideas to build something new out of two distinctive minds.
The duo began to amass a following in the beginning of 2023 with their viral single “Vienna (In Memorium)” and kept their momentum going with 2024 EPs: Fruit for Flies and Sugar for Bugs. With their success continuing to grow, The Army The Navy threw themselves into making their debut album Fake Brave Life. What started as an intimate process between two friends evolved into a full-blown studio production, bringing in producers Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster, Of Montreal, Toro y Moi), BLEACHERS’ Mikey Freedom Hart (Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, The Chicks), session musicians and a string quartet who helped enact their vision. With a lush arrangement of instruments came Maia and Sasha’s stunning storytelling, digging deeper into their uniquely shared experiences of love and the loss of it, featuring songs written from past versions of themselves at Loyola University to their present lives as roommates in Los Angeles.
Fake Brave Life includes the earlier singles “Down Debbie/Reservoir,” “2 Collide”, “Pretty, Pink and Soft” and “Walls.”
The band will play Lollapalooza this August and will support Lord Huron in July after recent support tours with Joy Crookes, Dora Jar, Paris Paloma, and more.
