Belle Chen – Breezy

Belle Chen by Harry Cornish

London-based pianist and composer Belle Chen releases “Breezy”, via Platoon.

Following the success of her 2024 album Ravel In The Forest—which debuted at #7 on the UK Specialist Classical chart and #15 on the ARIA Classical chart—the Australian-Taiwanese artist shares a summery neo-classical piece that captures the feeling of driving along the coast with the windows down, hair blowing in the wind, utterly carefree.

“With ‘Breezy,’ I wanted to catch summery air in the hair, the type of feeling you get when driving or riding along the coast with the windows down. The feeling of being carefree, optimistic… a gradual release of tension and energy built up from the grinds of daily life,” Chen explains. “Which is interesting, as I wrote this tune whilst buckled down in London in the midst of the dark winter in 2024.”

Layers of piano, synthesizers, and electric piano bounce playfully alongside cello, performed by Australian cellist and songwriter William Jack. The result is a piece that evokes sun-drenched coastal roads and youthful freedom—a sonic escape crafted during London’s darkest months, proving the power of imagination to transport us beyond our immediate circumstances.

Described by Brian Eno as an artist that is “original and provocative… feels like the sense of discovery,” Belle Chen has built a reputation for blurring the lines between classical and electronic music. What sets her work apart is a quirky yet tender approach to musical storytelling. With influences of Ryuichi Sakamoto and Joe Hisaishi’s melodic sweetness shining through, Chen also blends sonically bold synth explorations and free-flowing improvisations that could feel equally at home on jazz or experimental stages.

For fans of Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, and Max Richter, Chen’s music occupies a distinctive space where acoustic piano meets evocative electronics—a sound world entirely her own.

Chen embarks on an extensive European spring tour throughout March-May 2026, with sold-out shows already confirmed across The Hague, Leuven, Eindhoven, Münster, Mainz, and Norwich.
