Jen Lush – Wolf & The Dog/Black Wing
Looking to make waves with her first release since 2023’s ‘Hum of the Mettle’, Jen Lush is back with her latest offering, the double-single ‘Wolf & The Dog / Black Wing’. A striking balance between folk and art-rock, the release sees Lush return to the limelight with her trademark, detailed prowess.
Both singles highlight the mastery and finesse of Jen Lush, leaning into a soundscape that is just as bold as it is refreshing. ‘Between Wolf & Dog’ offers a blues-driven, almost lo-fi soundscape, an intimate sonic retelling of a tale with a fine line between allies and adversaries.
In the same breath, ‘Black Wing’ acts as a mindful navigation of inner peace and clarity, pushing forward as dancing, driven guitars punctuate Lush’s striking melodies.
Diving in, she elaborates, “Black Wing was born in solitude on a writing retreat, sparked by the loss of a Black Wing pencil and the discovery of a lone black cockatoo feather in an open field. A meditation on impermanence and letting go, it was written with an ordinary pencil, in a quietly extraordinary moment.”
Adding, “Between Wolf & Dog began as a haunting riff from guitarist Sam Cagney and grew into a full collaboration with my band, The Field. Inspired by Georgia Blain’s novel, it inhabits the dusky threshold where friend blurs with foe, and the known slips into uncertainty.”
Hailing from Adelaide, singer-songwriter Jen Lush has built up a strong reputation for her dynamic blend of folk-rock and art-rock as she looks to make waves across the industry. Since her debut album, of poem-songs, ‘The Night’s Insomnia’ was released, she has gone on to release two award-winning albums in three years. Performing at festivals across Australia, Jen and her stellar band – comprised of James Brown, Paul Angas, Sam Cagney, and Mark Seddon – show no signs of slowing down. Her most recent studio effort, ‘Hum of the Mettle’, was named ARBA’s ‘Roots Album of the Year’. Now back for 2025, Jen Lush is back in the studio and getting ready to release more new music before the year is out.
