Julie Odell – Disappearing Act

Julie Odell has announced her new EP Disappearing Act, set for release October 17th on Frenchkiss Records.

Today she’s shared the title-track, “Disappearing Act” from the EP – an ethereal, delicate and otherworldly offering.
Since her debut album, Autumn Eve released in 2022, Julie Odell has been writing and living through some monumental life changes. Now, a new EP, aptly named Disappearing Act attempts to put that period into focus.
On the upcoming EP, Odell says – “I had gone with my daughter to Indiana to visit my sister and her family right before the start of the world shutting down and ended up staying for several months” When I left Indiana, the world was still in lockdown. New Orleans was quiet. My best friend Tif “Teddy” Lamson had been engineering at Marigny Studios and had full access to all the gear. I had a small batch of songs so she offered to record them.”
“We collaborated while navigating this new covid world and since everything was shut down we were able to zoom in and take our time. It was just a project to pass the time with no deadlines or pressure. No band, no plan, just two best buds making art in a bubble”
Odell’s mother is a painter, and her father is a potter, and she spent much of her childhood in the back of a van, trekking to art festivals and craft fairs for months at a time with her parents, which was how they made a living. She was surrounded by artists and their art for her whole life, so it was only a matter of time before she started making her own art.
Disappearing Act was recorded at Marigny Studios in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana. Listen to previous single “Orioles Eating Oranges,” which also appears on the 4-song EP.
