Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers – GLORY

Teen Jesus by Briana de Silva2

ARIA Award-winning indie-rock four piece Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are thrilled to announce their second full-length studio album GLORY, out November 7 via Mom + Pop Music (+ Community Music in AU/NZ).

 GLORY

Alongside the news, the band shares their latest single, the fiery and rage-filled “MOTHER”

GLORY is an exploration of confidence, disgust, infatuation, and power set against widescreen indie-rock you can strut to, ushering in a bold new era for the band. It’s the sound of getting the bus home after a night out, mascara smeared and battery on 1%. It’s the conspiratorial eye roll you share with a girlfriend when a loser guy won’t stop talking. It’s Cher Horowitz declaring, “Ugh, as if!” in Clueless. Also featuring “BALCONY” and “UNSCARRED.”

The new single “MOTHER” is unlike anything Teen Jesus have released before. With guitarist Scarlett McKahey taking lead vocals for the first time, its twangy, western-inspired beginnings explode into fury, the band screaming at the top of their lungs and leaving no room for anyone else. On “MOTHER” the band shares…

“MOTHER is for every beautiful, magical lady who’s been caught in the crossfire of a man pretending to be good. It’s about the built up rage of watching incredible women being mistreated by inadequate men, over and over again since the beginning of time.

Produced by 3x GRAMMY Award-winning, London-based Catherine Marks (boygenius’ The Record, Wolf Alice), GLORY is an album the band calls “completely us”: the work of musicians who know exactly who they are, what they’re worth and what they want to create. Together with Marks, the band spent five intense weeks at a home studio on Darkinjung Land / NSW’s Central Coast, shaping every detail until the songs sounded exactly as intended. Marks fostered an environment where they felt empowered to say no, encouraged to experiment, and free to throw out whatever didn’t fit — all in service of arriving at the truest distillation of their sound. Every vocal, instrumental part, and lyric on GLORY emerged exactly as the band envisioned, their musicianship taking centre stage to deliver the suckerpunch power that drives the record.

Across its already-released singles “BALCONY” and “UNSCARRED” — from the forthcoming GLORY, which was mixed by 3x GRAMMY Award-winning Oli Jacobs (Kendrick Lamar, beabadoobee, Taylor Swift) and mastered by Ruairi O’Flaherty (Sabrina Carpenter, Lana Del Rey, Bleachers).

Formed by Anna Ryan (they/she; vocals/guitar), Scarlett McKahey (she/her; guitar/vocals), Jaida Stephenson (she/her; bass) and Neve van Boxsel (she/her; drums), Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers have been on a sharp rise since their 2022 debut EP Pretty Good For A Girl Band, with breakout single “Girl Sports” landing at #55 on the triple j Hottest 100. Their debut album I Love You (2023) landed at #6 on the ARIA Charts, with “I Used To Be Fun” placing at #52 on the Hottest 100, while its deluxe I Love You Too (2024) added new singles “Dull (ft. Softcult)” and “Please Me (ft. The Linda Lindas),” the former placing in triple j’s Hottest 200. Along the way they’ve earned J Awards, APRA Awards, Rolling Stone Awards, AIR Awards and Music ACT honors, been named one of Spotify’s Artists To Watch, and opened for Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam in both Australia and the US.

Now based across Ngunnawal/Canberra, and Naarm/Melbourne, the band continue to champion issues facing women, non-binary people, and young people while making music that refuses to be boxed in. Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers refuse to be pigeonholed — and with GLORY, they prove once again they can’t be underestimated.
