Slothrust – Wildcard

Following the release of their 2023 LP I Promise — which reimagined classics like Ginuwine’s “Pony” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” — Slothrust are back with a bold new track: “Wildcard.”

The alt-rock duo, composed of principal songwriter, guitarist, and badass artistic visionary Leah Wellbaum and drumming powerhouse Will Gorin, deliver a groove-heavy, dangerously seductive sonic ride. On “Wildcard,” Wellbaum’s intoxicating vocals slink over a hypnotic rhythm as she whispers, “Sometimes I feel like a wildcard.” The tension builds until it bursts into an explosive guitar riff, backed by a theatrically intense choir chanting the title phrase.

“Wildcard,” the band explains, “is an unhinged summer song for the collective about what it means to lean into the unpredictability so many of us are feeling these days. Consider this your invitation to keep it weird and wacky within reason.”

Simultaneously raw and theatrical, minimal and massive, “Wildcard” captures Slothrust at their most unpredictable and magnetic. It’s chaotic. It’s seductive. It’s a wild ride — and it’s utterly irresistible.
