On October 23rd, experimental pop artist Wallgrin will release their third studio album, Underworld Songbook.

In addition to the three singles shared over the summer, the full-length album promises six more tracks of Wallgrin’s self-described “medieval-digital pop” via Bronze Age Feeling Records. Produced by Wallgrin, the album’s musical collaborators include Patrick Shiroishi, the prolific LA-based saxophonist who features on a track called “The Eye That Sees Itself”.

Wallgrin’s sound alights somewhere between the realms of Caroline Polachek and Loreena McKennitt: forward-thinking pop that remains rooted in something timeless and ancient, alongside bold, exploratory vocal prowess. Headed by Tegan Wahlgren, the Toronto-via-Vancouver composer, vocalist and violinist’s younger years full of fiddle music have shaped a sense of melody that retains a deeply Celtic flair, with harmonic language to match. In recent years, Wallgrin’s spirited and raw live performances have brought them to festivals like Iceland Airwaves, The Great Escape, FOCUS Wales, and Tallinn Music Week. The October 2026 release of Underworld Songbook follows 2018’s Bird/Alien and 2022’s Yet Again The Wheel Turns.

The accompanying lore of the album reveals a backstory about a mysterious organization called the Bronze Age Feeling Institute and the various researchers who work there, with archaeologist Dr. Persephone Rivers and linguistic anthropologist Dr. Karen Erebus being chief among them. The Institute’s official statement about Wallgrin’s Underworld Songbook is as follows:

“The Underworld Songbook is a collection of traditional folk songs that come to us from the long-lost civilization known as the Voidfolk. Thanks to extensive translation work by Dr. Karen Erebus and her team at the Bronze Age Feeling Institute, the song-language of the Voidfolk has allowed us to glean the melodies that accompanied their lyrical poetry. Now, in this release from Bronze Age Feeling Records, Wallgrin’s research fellowship at the BAF Institute has led them to recreate the contents of the Songbook as accurately as possible alongside expert musical interpreters.”
