Loud Women – Never Too Late

LOUD WOMEN is launching Never Too Late, a new programme challenging ageism in music and creating opportunities for women and non-binary people aged 40+ to form bands, write original songs and perform live.
Beginning in January 2027, the London programme will bring participants together for 12 weeks of workshops at Brixton Hill Studios. They will form new bands, develop their musical skills and original material, and prepare for a public live showcase in Brixton in April 2027.
A stellar cast of guest musicians and mentors is joining Never Too Late: Kathy Valentine (The Go-Go’s), renowned vocal coach and broadcaster Dr Carrie Grant MBE, Debbie Smith (Curve, Echobelly), Helen McCookerybook (The Chefs), Fliss Kitson (The Nightingales) and Charley Stone (Salad, Gay Dad), alongside programme lead Cassie Fox (I, Doris/LOUD WOMEN). Bringing decades of experience from stages, studios and the music industry, they’ll help the new bands find their sound, write original songs, develop recording and performance skills, and get ready to take the stage. More guest mentors will be announced in due course.
The programme is for people who are new to their instrument as well as those who have played on their own for years but have never found the opportunity to make music with others.
Never Too Late will also establish an international online community for women and non-binary people aged 40+ to meet collaborators, exchange ideas and resources, and take part in online events with guest musicians. People outside London will be able to get involved in the community even if they cannot attend the in-person workshops.
Cassie Fox, founder of LOUD WOMEN, said:
“There are so many women who have wanted to play in a band for years but have never had the chance because they’ve been too busy putting everyone and everything else first. We want to make that opportunity real, and show that there is no age limit on starting something creative together.”
Never Too Late is supported by PPL Giving and The Ivors Academy Trust, with additional support from Fender, Brixton Hill Studios and the Windmill, Brixton.
