Fine – Jazz Dreams

Today, Danish producer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Fine releases her new album, Jazz Dreams, via Escho.

Arriving alongside the album is a new music video for “Get In,” directed by Louise Le Meur, as well as a new episode of Fine’s ongoing NTS residency.
The thirteen-song collection materializes following a gradual sixteen-month unveiling through live performances, demos shared during her NTS residency, and the singles “I Could,” “Run,” “Moment,” “Portal,” “Everything in the Shade,” and “Sometimes I Rush.”
Following her acclaimed 2024 debut Rocky Top Ballads, Fine expands her musical world on Jazz Dreams, arriving at a place that feels fluid, surreal, and expansive. Self-produced, recorded, and mixed by Fine, the album unfolds as a collage of scenes, stories, and musical ideas stitched together with the logic of a dream. Across its thirteen tracks, echoes of five decades of modern music emerge and dissolve, with flashes of the cut-and-paste imagination of Paul’s Boutique, the melodic directness of Carole King, and both sides of Scott Walker appearing in unexpected combinations.
Over the past year and a half, Jazz Dreams has gradually revealed itself in public. Early versions of songs appeared during Fine’s live performances, while alternate forms and demos surfaced throughout her NTS residency, allowing listeners glimpses into a record that was constantly evolving. The finished album embraces this sense of movement and transformation, blurring the boundaries between genres, eras, and emotional states.
The larger narrative of Jazz Dreams emerges in fragments. Like dreams themselves, the songs move through association rather than plot, feeling instead of fact, transforming emotional impressions into something intimate and deeply human.
“Making records, it is not linear. Something is thrown into a room, and the bizarre is simply accepted, without ever feeling strange. You surrender to the dream’s own logic. It’s cruel, but it’s also freeing,” explains Fine.
At the center of it all is melody. Fine’s intricate vocal arrangements act as connective tissue between the album’s shifting scenes and moods, guiding listeners through its emotional terrain. Throughout Jazz Dreams, she continues to make the mysterious feel familiar, allowing memory, longing, possibility, and imagination to stir together into something new.
As Pitchfork recently noted while naming the record one of the season’s most anticipated albums, “Fine is plush, cozy even, steeped in paisley folk and jangle pop. But spend enough time in this incense-scented, velvet-upholstered lounge, and you may begin to see strange shadows crawling up the walls.”
Much like jazz improvisation, Jazz Dreams follows instinct wherever it leads. The songs do not search for answers or destinations. Instead, they embrace intuition, transforming emotional fragments into a vivid dream world all their own.
The album artwork reflects this same spirit. The image began as a drawing gifted to Fine by Jared Nangle in exchange for entry to a show in Paris last year; a fleeting act of generosity transformed into the visual centerpiece of the album. Like Jazz Dreams itself, it finds meaning in chance encounters, strange connections, and the stories we choose to carry forward.
