Brimheim – My Collection

Brimheim’s creative appetite has taken her in several directions since the release of her second album, RATKING, in 2024. She toured extensively, produced and recorded 44 radio programmes for Danish public radio, made her acting debut in feature film No Rest for the Wicked, starring Pilou Asbæk (Borgen, Game of Thrones), and wrote a Faroese-language song for the film. Most recently, she appeared on Danish television, where she was challenged to write a song in a day.
Now that creative impulse has led somewhere less expected.
“My Collection” introduces a striking new musical language for Brimheim.
Built around piano and steeped in the harmonic world of 1970s singer-songwriters, the track begins as a woozy, almost jazzy ballad before expanding into playful, cabaret-tinged chamber pop, with organ, trumpet and Mellotron gathering around Brimheim’s velvety voice.
The song emerged after a period of crate-digging through artists including Dory Previn, Judee Sill, Vashti Bunyan, Scott Walker, Nick Drake, Linda Perhacs, and Karen Dalton. Drawn to the unexpected chords and harmonic language of the era, Brimheim and longtime collaborator Søren Buhl Lassen found themselves following a direction neither had anticipated.
“Writing new music had felt like swimming in molasses for months until “My Collection” arrived — it was a major breakthrough,” Brimheim says. “The jazzy direction was surprising to both me and Søren. It’s a musical tradition I haven’t explored before. Yet somehow, it immediately revealed itself as the most enchanting path we could take. It felt like receiving a gift from the universe.”
Lyrically, “My Collection” opens up a more fictional and dreamlike corner of Brimheim’s songwriting. The song is narrated by a mysterious collector whose greatest treasures are things other people have discarded: objects found in the street, dredged from the ocean floor or picked up on the beach. For Brimheim, those forgotten objects stand in for rejected parts of ourselves — qualities hidden away because they were not valued by others. The collector shows them off with almost childlike pride, but she is fiercely protective of them. Admiration is welcome. Disrespect comes with fatal consequences.
“My Collection” is accompanied by a music video directed by Stine Emil, continuing a collaboration that began with videos for “Brand New Woman” and “Normies.” Shot on a weathered horse farm, the video inhabits a world deliberately difficult to place in time — could be now, could be a hundred years ago. Like the song, it draws on the past without quite belonging to it.
“My Collection” is released by Copenhagen based Tambourhinoceros.
