John Glacier – Lights

Following a breakthrough year that solidified her status as one of the UK’s most vital and singular creative voices, John Glacier returns with her second new release of 2026: the striking new single “Lights,” out now on Young.
Released in February 2025, Glacier’s acclaimed debut album, Like A Ribbon, marked a defining moment in the career of the Hackney-born rapper, producer, and poet. Seamlessly blending rap, electronic music, post-punk, ambient textures, and experimental songwriting, the album showcased Glacier’s uniquely diaristic, stream-of-consciousness approach and established her as an artist operating entirely in a lane of her own.
She has also continued to appear in unexpected places through collaborations with artists across genres, including Blondshell (“T&A”), MJ Cole (“Move Time”), Montell Fish and dj gummy bear (“Ostentatious”), Jadasea (“Lemon Cherry”), and Jamie xx (“Dafodil”). Together, these achievements have further established Glacier as a rare multidisciplinary talent whose influence spans music, fashion, and contemporary culture alike.
Earlier this summer, Glacier unveiled “Bond Girl,” her first new music since Like A Ribbon. Co-produced with contemporary hitmaking duo Take A Daytrip (Lil Nas X, Travis Scott, Kid Cudi, Dua Lipa), the Detroit techno-inspired single found Glacier pushing her sound into more club-focused territory while maintaining the hypnotic qualities that define her work. Today, she expands that world further with “Lights.”
Where “Bond Girl” embraced movement and nightlife, “Lights” turns its gaze toward the realities of life under constant observation. Produced by Kwes Darko, the track is perhaps the most immediate and accessible moment of Glacier’s career to date. Built around winding synth lines, grandiose bells, and skittering percussion, the production balances contemporary pop sensibilities with the left-field experimentation that has made Glacier one of the most distinctive voices in British music.
Lyrically, “Lights” explores the tension of existing in an always-on culture, reflecting on a life increasingly lived in front of cameras and under public scrutiny. Yet, as with her best work, Glacier approaches extraordinary experiences with a matter-of-fact intimacy, transforming the surreal into something deeply relatable. The result is a track that feels simultaneously expansive and personal, showcasing some of the sharpest and most direct songwriting of her career.
With “Lights,” John Glacier reveals another facet of her ever-evolving creative universe. Following the critical success of Like A Ribbon, a landmark year across music and fashion, and the genre-expanding introduction of “Bond Girl,” Glacier continues to demonstrate the remarkable range of her artistry. Whether crafting music for clubs, headphones, fashion houses, or festival stages, she remains one of the most uncompromising, unclassifiable, and forward-thinking artists of her generation.
