Odie Leigh – Miss Leave Me Alone
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Odie Leigh returns today with her long-awaited new single, “Miss Leave Me Alone,” co-produced by Matt Martin (Faye Webster, COIN, Delaney Bailey, Aidan Bissett), and available everywhere now via LABEL TK.
“I’ve been having a horrible time,” says Odie Leigh. “Forced into a hiatus, I found myself constantly face to face with every mistake I’ve ever made. ‘Miss Leave Me Alone’ is a reflection on the ego nursery that is the music industry, and how the qualities we praise can turn into problems we resent.”
Like many things in the year 2020, Odie Leigh becoming a musician was never supposed to happen. What sprouted from the New Orleans bedroom of a then-21-year-old college student was a viral video prompted by a roommate’s bet: Get the most views on TikTok. To everyone’s surprise, including her own, Odie Leigh was crowned victor… but now she had an audience watching. Her newfound purpose led to two masterful, raw EPs that captured the attention of folk and indie lovers alike.
2024 saw the release of Leigh’s debut album, Carrier Pigeon, affirming her as a singer-songwriter to watch, one that defies expectations and refuses to be pigeonholed (pun intended) as indie folk’s latest darling. The album earned critical applause from such publications as the New York Times, Bust, Narc, Under the Radar, and Paste, the latter of which raved, “In a world with a seemingly endless Rolodex of acoustic female melancholia, (Leigh’s) proven that her voice has the potential to stand out amongst her contemporaries… Carrier Pigeon is a strange and exceptional introduction to one of the brightest singer-songwriters on the rise.”
Leigh marked the arrival of Carrier Pigeon with a busy international tour schedule that featured sold-out headline shows across North America and the United Kingdom, support runs alongside flipturn and Shakey Graves, and show-stealing festival appearances at Outside Lands, Shaky Knees, Kilby Block Party, Treefort Music Festival, and the UK’s End of The Road, to name only a few. The future brighter than ever before, Odie Leigh had done it – erupted from accident to working artist. And then came the darkness…
Following a series of unfortunate events that left her unable to release music, Leigh found herself back in her Detroit home with a growing vault of songs she wasn’t sure anyone would get to hear. Now, after keeping herself afloat dealing online blackjack and wrangling dogs in Tractor Supplies, Leigh is about to find out if there really is a light at the end of the tunnel. Her story long from finished, Odie Leigh has chronicled the last two years into an impending sophomore record no one sees coming – a reinvention, a symbol of what can be made even when you feel you have nothing, a stark reminder that, with a sense of humor, even anger, chaos, disappointment, and doubt can beautifully color the darkest of canvases.
Leigh will celebrate “Miss Leave Me Alone” – and the imminent arrival of a hugely anticipated new album to be unveiled soon – with a very special solo acoustic tour. Odie Leigh is… Alone begins October 8 at Philadelphia, PA’s Philadelphia Ethical Society and then makes stops across the US through early November. Highlights include sold-out shows at New York City’s Night Club 101 (October 9), Boston, MA’s The Red Room at Cafe 939 (October 10), Louisville, KY’s The Monarch (October 24), and Chicago, IL’s Schubas Tavern (November 6) as well as a sold-out hometown two-night stand at Detroit, MI’s Moondog Café (November 4-5).
