Nice Boat – Everybody’s Bored
Built from a foundation of live beats, bass guitar, and vocals (with the occasional Casio or harmonium), Nice Boat’s songs are lean without feeling sparse, playful without sacrificing emotional weight. Something one might have heard during The Smell ‘s golden age in Los Angeles. “We try not to think in terms of genre and instead focus on what sounds feel right in a visceral way… and that fits within our minimal instrumentation setup,” Mike Thrasher says.
That spirit runs through their debut album, I DON’T HAVE THE BANDWIDTH… produced entirely by Thrasher and Dylan Silver in their two garages. The album is out this Friday, September 25. 2026 via Slouch Records.
Today they share the final single “Everybody’s Bored.”
Uptempo bass and sparse hand claps support talk-singing. It all seems caked in a layer of grit. The band has also announced their Los Angeles record release show coming up on September 27th at Maritime Records.
On the track, Silver shares: “This track captures some of Mike and I’s back-and-forth. Bouncing ideas, notes, and MP3 clips back and forth. I sent over some lyrics, he gravitated toward the fragments that sparked something and drummed up some additional words of his own. The song evolved like the conversation in the song itself. I think the song speaks to the moments on the receiving end of boredom in someone else’s eyes and a general frustration with the concept of ‘boredom’ in itself.”
Thrasher continues: “This one required a little more work. It took on a couple different forms before we said yeah! I was imagining this alive, electric, circus like atmosphere with helicopter whips, breathes, and sex pistols. It turned out to be that one song with an all out chorus. Sure! The words are a combo of us both. I love how the second verse goes in a different direction. Definitely fun to play live.”
Elsewhere on the album, the lyrics touch on a variety of subjects. From modern technology to politics to the awkwardness of everyday life, I DON’T HAVE THE BANDWIDTH explores moments of both awe or disgust. “Our songs try to give voice to the thoughts people often have but leave unsaid,” says Silver. “It honors the mind’s imperfections and all the parts of ourselves; the sweet, the nasty, and everything in between.”
Silver and Thrasher arrived from different creative worlds. Thrasher spent years writing, recording, and touring before stepping away to focus on family and visual art collaborations. Silver comes from a background in acting and writer-director filmmaking world, but music always played a big role in her life. “The thought of turning it into a band felt audacious, to say the least,” she adds.
When the two became friends, they discovered an unlikely creative shorthand that felt immediate from the start. Their debut EP, Vol. 1, introduced that chemistry through four tightly wound tracks and a series of inventive DIY videos, including “You’re Bad,” which premiered at the band’s release show and later screened at the Cinequest Film Festival.
Onstage, their songs take on another life. Equal parts live show, performance piece, and basement party, Nice Boat’s sets have earned them appearances around Los Angeles, including a residency at the Kibitz Room and performances at Permanent Records Roadhouse. It was at one of those shows that Slouch Records first saw the band, leading to the release of I DON’T HAVE THE BANDWIDTH.
Nice Boat has developed an unusually clear sense of purpose. “We’re a messy, delicious blend of low-fi and theatrics, vulnerability and mountains of play,” says Silver.
“We hope this record invites listeners to laugh, move, wince, and bop along, sometimes all within the space of ninety seconds.” Thrasher agrees. “We always aim to have fun and take the music seriously without ever taking it too seriously, if that makes any sense?” They sure hope it does.
