Kim Petras – Detour Rare N’ Deluxe
Today, GRAMMY® Award-winning pop powerhouse singer and songwriter Kim Petras follows up her critically acclaimed album Detour with a deluxe edition: Detour Rare N’ Deluxe.
The expanded album includes five fan-demanded tracks teased over the past year, including “Autobahn” alongside Petras’ latest music video.
Detour Rare N’ Deluxe is Executive Produced by Petras and Margo XS. In addition to writing on each track, Petras collaborates further with Frost Children, Margo XS, nightfeelings, atlgrandma, Desire & UHD.
“Autobahn”, considered the long-lost sister of “Jeep”, captures the darker, more complicated side of Detour’s emotional landscape. Kim delves further into the feeling of wanting to jump in the car and drive away, even if that means heading straight into oncoming traffic. With the video, Petras has painted yet another picture of the world Detour and Detour Rare N’ Deluxe call home with a music video for “Autobahn”. The video is directed by Neve Abcari.
For the visual world of Detour Rare N’ Deluxe, Petras collaborated with Creative Director Eli Sheppard. The visual language of the album was intended to reflect the journey of her career; rejecting the polished pop-star aesthetic in favor of something grounded. Much of the imagery was captured with spontaneity on a simple iPhone 4. The usage of discarded receipts, parking tickets and other ephemera were used to share project details instead of flat text graphics; objects that are touched, accumulated and sometimes considered keepsakes. Rather than flashy cars, to reinforce the idea of detour there were themes of roadwork and construction, because this has not been a scenic detour but one of traffic, grit and roadblocks. Fusing a love for vintage fashion, pop silhouettes and nostalgic fads, Petras mainly self-styled this entire album campaign, sourcing looks from European second-hand boutiques, online resale collectives and her own closet of archives.
Petras amplified her singles with a string of self-funded (and self-styled) music videos. “Freak It”, “I Like Ur Look”, “Need For Speed” and now “Autobahn” not only showed Kim’s dedication to reclaiming her creative vision for Detour, but her grassroots resourcefulness to bring her fans art that is authentic. Following these releases, Kim pulled off a standout, self-funded performance of “Jeep” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with visuals that can only be defined as an honest extension of the music video for her latest video, Jeep. Additionally, Jeep has garnered love on social media from friends and collaborators such as Charli XCX and MUNA, among others.
On October 1st, Petras will be hosting a special evening with the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, performing songs from Detour Rare N’ Deluxe and speaking with the intimate room about this pivotal career project.
While unavoidable delays impacted the release date for Detour, Kim took February 2026 to double down on her new sound with an independently released four-track EP called Pretour, available only via YouTube (with lo-fi exclusive videos) and SoundCloud. The four songs: “Pop Sound”, “Mr Producer (feat. BC Kingdom)”, “Cha Cha”, “and “Get Some (feat. Cortisa Star)” were quickly embraced by Kim’s loyal fans who were wise to understand Kim’s desire for this special drop.
Kim has also appeared recently in Europe, DJ’ing at renowned German nightclub Berghain along with frequent collaborator/producer Margo XS, sitting front row at Gucci in Milan, and sitting front row at Courreges in Paris after hosting a private event for Nylon France where she is featured on the current cover. After performing at the iconic Ladyland Festival, Kim also reunited with “Unlock It” collaborator Charli xcx in New York as a special surprise guest on the Music, Fashion, Film Tour.
