Flora Hibberd – Silent Movie Baby
London-born, Paris-based artist Flora Hibberd has today unveiled the latest offering from her forthcoming sophomore album Mammoth, due October 16, 2026 via 22TWENTY.
“Silent Movie Baby” sets the tone for the rest of Mammoth and the journey ahead, seeing Flora wrestle with upheaval, desire and past connections – “getting the ghosts in line” – between bouncing electronic lines and refracted vocals.
Commenting on the single, Flora says: “The song explores the feeling of trying to escape the structure and then ending up using the structure against itself, to destroy it. Sudden, big, unhelpful desire crashes into your life and changes everything for a few weeks.”
“Silent Movie Baby” also comes complete with a video by bandmate Victor Claas, depicting Flora in a found-footage style, with snippets recorded lo-res and collage-like. He adds: “We wanted something slightly unsettling for this one – think of fast-moving, cold-blooded animals creeping around at dusk, or colonies of insects swarming over a jar of jam. No matter how hard you try to sink your desires, they will resurface eventually.”
The release of “Silent Movie Baby” follows July’s melancholy but airy single “Shelley,” and June’s “Ache” – which features vocals from collaborator Sufjan Stevens – and era-opener “Mammoth,” the title track of the forthcoming LP. Balancing intimacy with euphoric scale, and sonic playfulness with immediate pop impact, “Ache” leaned into melodic bass and joyous synth lines, while “Mammoth” utilized bold brass instrumentation and “Shelley” drew on poetic references with lush minor progressions. Produced by Ben Lanz (The National, Beirut), the new music captures Hibberd at her most fearless, ambitious, and sonically expansive yet.

An evolution from the lush acoustic warmth and folk-tinged sonics of her acclaimed debut album Swirl, Hibberd makes a creative leap forward with Mammoth, a 10-track collection shot through with the energy of an epoch – electric, raging, and vital – as she takes a turn toward modular synth-driven rock and energized pop. It’s a record about ghosts, time, and life in the neighborhood, responding to the mounting weirdness of hypermodernity with its own set of contradictions: dynamic yet cohesive, multiple yet clear-eyed, enraged yet joyous.
Flora Hibberd recently returned to the UK to support Hannah Cohen following two shows at The Great Escape earlier this summer and a trio of dates supporting Beirut in Europe. She has also been announced for Berlin’s PEOPLE Festival, a heralded week-long residency and festival created by the Dessners (The National), Bon Iver & friends.
The second studio album from Flora Hibberd follows debut LP Swirl (2025) – and consequently the deluxe edition of the record earlier this year – which quickly garnered a wave of critical praise. Earning love from music tastemakers across social media, many saluted it with Album of the Year acclaim, lauding her haunting musicality in the contemporary folk-pop space. The record was produced by Shane Leonard, who recruited musicians for the album who play with the likes of Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens and The Tallest Man On Earth.
While early support came from Cerys Matthews, who invited Hibberd to record a session for BBC Radio 6 Music at Maida Vale Studios back in 2022, momentum around Flora Hibberd has become undeniable since Swirl. Her growing recognition has been driven by audience-led attention and the passion of the music fan, built on nothing but Hibberd’s raw talent.
Having steadily grown a reputation as a compelling performer, Hibberd has also shared stages with the likes of Kim Deal, Kate Bollinger, Oracle Sisters, Porridge Radio and more. Her quietly magnetic presence is hailed a live must see, for fans of artists such as Saya Gray, Perfume Genius, Sufjan Stevens and Aldous Harding.
