Soft Loft – Throw The Dice
Today, Zurich-based quintet Soft Loft release their second album Throw The Dice alongside the focus single “Gravity’s Pull” and its accompanying music video.
An irresistible, upbeat indie-pop earworm, “Gravity’s Pull” gets to the heart of Throw The Dice: a record about identity, growing older and rejecting expectations of what life is supposed to look like. “Do you want to get married and have this very normal kind of lifestyle, or do you want to go out and tour?” asks vocalist Jorina Stamm. “I’m not going to feel old just because I have an age on my ID.”
Written as Stamm approached 30, Throw The Dice finds Soft Loft questioning the conventional milestones of adulthood and embracing the uncertainty of choosing your own path. “I’m waiting for the moment when life will all add up and make sense, but I don’t know if we ever really get there,” she says.
Recorded at Black Box Studios in France, the album was produced by Soft Loft alongside LA-based engineer Sean Cook and mixed by Grammy-winning producer and engineer Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, Florence + The Machine, The National). Across the record, the band move between expansive, anthemic indie-pop and stripped-back intimacy, drawing inspiration from artists including Big Thief, Sam Fender, Sharon Van Etten and Lizzy McAlpine.
The follow-up to 2024’s debut LP The Party And The Mess, which saw Soft Loft work with Grammy-nominated producer Gianluca Buccellati (Lana Del Rey, Arlo Parks, The Marías), captures a band increasingly confident in trusting their instincts. Its title reflects the record’s central idea: accepting that life can’t be fully controlled and choosing to take the leap anyway. “We can make decisions, but it’s just a big gamble and you never really know what’s going to happen next,” says Stamm.
Ultimately, Throw The Dice is a record about self-acceptance, uncertainty and following your heart. As Stamm puts it: “With every release, we’re getting closer to what we want to be.”
The release arrives amid growing trajectory for Soft Loft, who recently joined German indie favorites AnnenMayKantereit for a run of major European support dates, including sold-out shows in Berlin.
