Lola Wild – Bonnie & Clyde
“Bonnie & Clyde” is the latest alt-rock gem from East-London based artist Lola Wild, and proves to be her most cinematic endeavor yet.
Embracing Ennio Morricone’s Spaghetti Western guitarwork, vintage production, and Motown vocals, “Bonnie & Clyde” finds itself rooted in the golden era of the 1960s whilst remaining at its heart, relentlessly forward-looking. Compelling songwriting and flirtatious arrangement culminate to form a story of tragedy, devotion, and two lovers chasing freedom.
Produced and written by Lola, mixing comes rather fittingly from Texas, via producer and artist Steve Stout.
Discussing the formation of “Bonnie & Clyde”, Lola explains:
“The song actually started with a strange little poem I wrote about ten years ago. It began with the line, ‘I fell in love with a cowboy in the west, a lizard man with monsters on his chest.’ I think I was deep into The Doors at the time! When I rediscovered it years later, I’d been listening to a lot of The Supremes and Martha and the Vandellas, and I’d also fallen in love with Natalie Bergman’s latest record and the way she gives vintage soul this beautifully psychedelic edge. Suddenly that old poem felt like it belonged in this new musical world. I decided to produce the track independently, bringing my band in to record the live instrumentation before sending it to Steve Stout in Texas, whose mix really helped bring the whole vision to life”
Lola has long been rooted in the arts, explaining that she “grew up surrounded by Motown/soul records and old vintage cinema and westerns as a kid, and I was completely captivated by Arthur Penn’s 1967 Bonnie and Clyde; It became one of those films I’d return to again and again. I loved how romantic and doomed it felt, like two people running towards something they could never outrun. When I wrote ‘Bonnie & Clyde’, I wasn’t interested in recreating the film.”
She continues, “I wanted to imagine my own psychedelic version of it. I loved the idea of marrying the relentless heartbeat of Motown drums with Spaghetti Western guitars and dreamlike production to create something that felt nostalgic but slightly surreal. I also wanted to push the story further into Romeo and Juliet territory, where love becomes both the escape and the downfall.”
Lola Wild has found acclaim through fans and industry alike, having performed sold-out shows at O2 Academy Islington, The Waiting Room, Crazy Coqs and SJQ, as well as performing live sessions at Black Barn Studios alongside members of Paul Weller’s band. This has coincided with support from BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Introducing and Radio X, with Apple Music providing editorial support.
“Bonnie & Clyde” follows “On and On”, released in June of this year, her first release since dropping her EP Lost Signal in the Autumn of 2025. With streaming numbers into the hundreds of thousands, Lola Wild has come a long way since her debut Rendezvous back in 2023. All roads point to 2027, when Lola will be releasing her hotly anticipated debut album, but for now “Bonnie & Clyde” steals the show.
