No Joy – Big Life, Big Leaf

In 2025, No Joy released their 5th LP Bugland. The project of Jasamine White-Gluz, had long been a critical darling, but their 2025 album was a new high water mark. Produced by the heralded Chicago experimental artist Fire-Toolz, the album earned a Best New Music designation from Pitchfork, who called it “a perfect album for our current shoecraze…Bugland is full of more textures, more ambiance, more chunky ’90s guitar. It crushes like a giant box of Gushers,” with further praise coming from Bandcamp, FADER, Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, AV Club, Hearing Things, FLOOD, and Exclaim, and was nominated for the Polaris Prize.
Today, No Joy is releasing a new EP entitled Big Life, Big Leaf, which is a further collaboration with Fire-Toolz, who just released her first LP on Warp Records. To mark the release No Joy are sharing the video for the track “Suki & Amadeus,” which arrives alongside a video featuring both White-Gluz and Fire-Toolz.
White-Gluz says of the track:
Angel and I both experienced personal losses weirdly over the same weekend. We were both dealing with grief and the emotions that come with it while making this song. I recorded my vocals in real time, mostly improvising the lyrics, in a stream of consciousness. To help alleviate some sadness, we often tuned in to TinyKittens HQ, a cat rescue in BC that does livestreams. Many of these songs were finalized while watching in real time as several rescue cats gave birth to their litters.
No Joy is also announcing a limited edition vinyl release of the EP as a Bandcamp exclusive. It’s a one time pressing of 300 on rose colored 10 inch vinyl.
