Rising R&B singer-songwriter Liv East floats back into the ether with her sensuous new cut “Projections” – arriving as the fourth single in anticipation of her debut album, FUNKSOULSEX.
The East London artist and creative builds on her growing momentum with a seductive fusion of funk and soul on “Projections.” Layered and introspective, the track explores the complexities of falling in love and asks whether we are, ultimately, searching for a deeper connection within ourselves. The hypnotic, sultry vocal melodies drift effortlessly over smooth, laid-back basslines and pulsing drums, creating a tantalisingly addictive sound that feels both fresh and timeless – establishing clear markers of a fast-rising talent confidently setting the stage for her incendiary debut album to follow.
Speaking on the track, Liv East explains: “’Projections’ is the first single from the album I’ve shared where I feel as though I’m really getting vulnerable and letting you into how my brain works. I think deeply and philosophically when it comes to matters of the heart, and I’ve always questioned how much of what we feel in relationships with others is just our own projections. Projections of joy, of hurt, of jealousy, of admiration etc etc. When we ‘fall’ for someone, what’s really going on? We say we’re in love, but a lot of the feelings felt with a romantic partner are oftentimes projections of self and shadow… This notion is deeply intriguing to me and makes me curious about how we can decipher what is truly ‘real’ and what is just a shadow on the wall.”
