Chinchilla – Dog Eat Dog

With each new music drop, London artist and producer CHINCHILLA redefines her vision and status as a talent stepping fully into her power. Embracing newfound artistic independence, CHINCHILLA previews an exciting new chapter, her long awaited debut album, with a vibrant new single: ‘DOG EAT DOG’.
The track marks a powerful return for CHINCHILLA, her first taste of new music since 2025’s impressive string of releases that included ‘Avoidance’, ‘Ok As I Am’ and ‘To Have & Hold’. With ‘Dog Eat Dog’, the listener gets to witness CHINCHILLA flourish further as a multi-talented artist and songwriter; a fearless voice that is unafraid to play with light and dark textures, both emotional and musical.
The song itself is about “feeling discontent and unsatisfied in happiness and sadness”, and is a project CHINCHILLA worked on in Los Angeles with James Mellor on mixing, and Katie Tavini on mastering. Reflecting on creating ‘Dog Eat Dog’ while experiencing some emotional turmoil, CHINCHILLA says connecting with collaborators, Mike Wise (Chappell Roan) and Sara Boe (Flo, Anyma) , was key to breaking through writer’s block.
“The day I wrote ‘Dog Eat Dog’ I walked into the studio feeling so rough, I’d been having these meltdowns before writing sessions that had been building up and getting worse and worse every day. I couldn’t really think of anything to write about, I wasn’t heartbroken or livid, my soul wasn’t destroyed, I hadn’t just been deeply betrayed or wronged… and I felt like I didn’t know what to say anymore and it was blocking me. I walked into the studio with Mike Wise and Sara Boe, who I’d never met. They asked me how I was and I immediately welled up, and then we just talked for three hours. Mike played this old school rock and roll country banjo idea and I swear it was like an explosion of ideas.” CHINCHILLA
‘Dog Eat Dog’ is a burst of emotion from CHINCHILLA, as well as being a statement of intent from the artist moving forward in this new era. In 2023, the release of her song ‘Little Girl Gone’ catapulted the singer onto radars, earning her a RIAA certified Gold record, and global recognition.
In the years that have followed, CHINCHILLA has performed on festival stages at Reading Festival, Lollapalooza, Primavera, Pinkpop and Mad Cool; while solidifying her fan base through stellar headline spots and support runs for artists including G Flip and Justin Timberlake. Her catalogue boasts over 400 million global streams, with multiple #1 charting positions on the iTunes charts in the UK, US, Canada, NZ and other global markets.
Still, retaining the same level of integrity in her work that has been with her since the beginning, CHINCHILLA has poured life experience – good and bad – into her new music.
‘Dog Eat Dog’ is a perfect example of how a clashing of sounds and emotions can come together in a beautiful, strong way.
“‘Dog Eat Dog’ is about feeling discontent and unsatisfied in happiness and in sadness; when you’re happy there’s nothing to be dramatic / artistic / deep about and when you’re sad it’s depressing lol. ‘I’m pushing daisies on the brightest of days, summer don’t come round keep making it rain, why’d the big bad world go and make me this way’ …It’s about feeling existential and a gentle self pity & loathing for feeling uncomfortable in a healthy stability, basically.
‘My love don’t feed me, but won’t cut me loose… it’s dog eat dog’. ‘My love’ is kind of a metaphor for my mental state. The modern world is rough! I love how the song is so upbeat, but underneath it all pretty depressing, it’s kind of a metaphor for life – like oh well, we carry on. ‘I keep projecting the anger, I keep rejecting the anchor’ is my favourite line.” CHINCHILLA
