Acclaimed folk-pop singer and RIAA Gold certified songwriter Catie Turner shares her poignant new single, “California,” alongside its official music video.
Co-directed by Kaya Stewart and Ruby Ballen, the video complements the song’s exploration of chasing dreams and seeking validation, with cameo appearances from friends and fellow artists Isabel LaRosa and Sophie Holohan. Arriving with the announcement of her long-awaited debut album, Blue Alchemy, due October 16, the release offers a clear glimpse into Turner’s most anticipated project to date.
On “California,” Turner reflects on ambition, homesickness, and the elusive pursuit of success. Built around candid lyricism and her signature emotive vocals, the track explores the tension between chasing lifelong dreams and confronting the realities that come with them, asking whether the version of success we imagine is ever quite what we find.
“I wrote ‘California’ about my experience being in Los Angeles and pursuing my dreams,” says Turner. “They say it takes 10 years to make it – but what do you do for the 10 years while you wait? It’s about chasing a dream that looks a little differently in practice than what you first imagined: flakey coffee dates, networking events, and a nasty case of homesickness.”
Blue Alchemy marks a major milestone for Turner, serving as her long-awaited debut album. Arriving October 16, the project expands on the emotional honesty and fearless songwriting that have become her calling card, capturing the complexities of growing up, letting go, and discovering who you are beneath the expectations you’ve carried for years.
