Mothertomb – Dying To Live

Mothertomb2

Emerging from the frozen forests of Northern Michigan, the formidable doom metal collective Mothertomb unleash their highly anticipated debut album, Dying to Live, on July 14, 2026. This independent quartet expertly merges the crushing weight of traditional doom metal with the hypnotic textures of stoner rock, heavy psych, and gothic atmospheres, resulting in a sound that is both emotionally haunting and sonically devastating.

 Dying to Live

With five expansive tracks, Dying to Live delves into themes of suffering, transformation, transcendence, and the eternal struggle between darkness and light. The album draws inspiration from Welsh folklore and the shadowed depths of the human psyche, guiding listeners through allegorical landscapes inhabited by ancient spirits and inner demons. This journey through sonic and emotional landscapes is both brutal and eerily beautiful, making it a significant addition to the doom metal genre.

Born from the haunting aftermath of Northern Michigan’s historic ice storm in April 2025, Mothertomb reflects the duality of beauty and destruction in their music. The album stands as a testament to the band’s fiercely independent DIY ethos, with every aspect of its creation—writing, recording, production, and artwork—being a labor of love. The striking album artwork, illustrated by vocalist Alice Gawlinski, complements the powerful themes explored throughout the record.

The band’s initial singles, “Beware” and “Mountain Hag,” have already garnered critical acclaim, with reviews praising their immersive and heavy sound. Steve Howe of Outlaws of the Sun called “Beware” a “superbly executed proposition,” while Michael D’Amato of Playgroundz Rocks described it as “dark, immersive, and heavy as hell.” As Mothertomb continues to build momentum in the underground metal scene, they are quickly establishing themselves as one of the genre’s most promising new voices.
