María Isabel – Miss Me Much?

Maria Isabel by César Buitrago

Following the appearance of mysterious fliers popping up on lampposts throughout New York City, Dominican-American artist María Isabel announces her new project Miss Me Much? out August 7th via Sony Music Latin.

Miss Me Much?

Executive produced by Grammy award-winning producer El Guincho (Charli xcx, Rosalía, FKA twigs), María’s forthcoming full-length breaks open a new dimension of her sound rooted in her identity as a daughter of Dominican immigrants growing up in Queens. Alongside the project’s announcement, María is also sharing a unique new offering from MMM? with new single “1-800”, the only song she sings in English on the project that harkens back to the sultry R&B of her early music.

María first began hinting at this evolution of her artistry late last year with early singles “Sunset Tower” and “Bien Bien”, a fiery opening taste of what she had in store after a series of recording sessions in Miami with El Guincho to form the project. Earlier this year, María released the dembow-inflected “Suiza” with an accompanying music video shot in her native Dominican Republic. Around the song’s release, María spoke to Rolling Stone, who deemed her an Artist You Need To Know, about her mindset following the dissolution of a long term relationship that led to this newfound levity in her music: “I was dating for the first time as a full grown adult where I’m settled and know what I want, what I don’t want,” she said. “So it was just way more fun and lighthearted.”

Miss Me Much? embodies a personal shift for María not only in the lyricism of these songs, but also their sonic tapestry. María channels the pointed confidence and personal discovery of shedding a heavy relationship straight to the dance floor. The project pairs El Guincho’s distinct perspective on the familiar reggaeton and Dembow rhythms of María’s childhood in Queens, with the pointed honesty of her own experiences. The result is a uniquely reflective, empowering and mature body of work that ratchets up the BPM more frequently, while consistently retaining the deeply personal nature of her songwriting that first caught the world’s attention.

María first introduced her intimate and vulnerable lyricism in 2021 through a pair of EPs, Stuck in the Sky and her subsequent follow-up i hope you’re very unhappy without me.
