mary in the junkyard – Blood

Mary In The Junkyard by Xander Lewis2

mary in the junkyard — Clari Freeman-Taylor (vocals, guitar, cello, viola, violin), Saya Barbaglia (Bass, viola, violin, backing vocals) and David Addison (drums) — release their debut album, Role Model Hermit, this Friday, July 3rd via AMF Records.

Role Model Hermit has already received praise from major publications in the US and UK, with Rolling Stone naming the band an “Artist You Need To Know” and hailing the album as “one of 2026’s most fascinating indie debuts,” and Uncut claiming the album “masters the grandiose as triumphantly as the understated.”

Leading into Friday’s album release, mary in the junkyard now unveil “Blood,” a sinuous and punchy track highlighting the band at their most lean and vital.

The song is wrapped around a spider-like guitar figure from Freeman-Taylor with Addison and Barbaglia providing artful rhythmic and melodic counterpoints. It’s based on Freeman-Taylor’s experience of newfound love. Barbaglia says, “I know Clari so well that I could feel the change within her; this vocal could have only been recorded in that moment.”

Role Model Hermit is a collection of dark fables, intricate melodies and moments of revelation. mary in the junkyard wrote the album between the UK and US and recorded it in London during the summer of 2025 with producer Oli Bayston (Boxed In). Throughout its runtime, the album walks the line between fact and fiction with a real sense of bite and moments of poignancy, while always creeping into the phantasmagoric.

Last month, mary in the junkyard played a run of co-headline dates with Dove Ellis at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles and the Bowery Ballroom in New York City. They will play several in-store performances in the US and UK around the album release, and tour North America this fall, making stops in cities they have yet to headline.
