Winston Liv – Sugar Baby

WINSTON LIV by Tabitha Turner

Today, up-and-coming Nashville singer/songwriter Winston Liv (they/them) has released the second single, “Sugar Baby” from  the debut album Joan of Snark.

“Sugar Baby” is the first song written for the album. While in college, Winston was interested in taking a songwriting class. Unfortunately, the class was only offered to music majors, but with their dad’s encouragement, Winston sent a demo recording of their song, “Sugar Baby,” to the professor teaching the class. After listening to the song, Winston was allowed to take the class as an elective and loved every minute of it.

“I wrote the song ‘Sugar Baby’ about a friend I felt only wanted to hang out with me if I was the one paying for everything,” says Liv. “I really valued our friendship to the point that I would turn a blind eye to them taking advantage of me.”

It follows “Muse”, an indie-pop gem about a first crush that spans middle school and high school. The song received praise from several outlets.

Joan of Snark

Joan of Snark is an auditory elixir of reflective folk, alternative attitude, and playful pop melodies, creating a dreamy, pensive sound. The album is a collection of coming-of-age songs that express yearning for autonomy, obsessive first love, and insecurity in oneself that all come together to tell the universal story of growing up.

Joan of Snark will be released independently on August 28, 2026.
