Billet Doux – Superbloom Is Here Again

French cosmic pop-rock duo Billet Doux today release their long-awaited debut album, Superbloom Is Here Again, via Tôt ou Tard.

Blending explosive guitars, dreamy synths, cinematic storytelling, and unflinching emotional honesty, the album arrives as a bold introduction to one of the most exciting emerging acts in the French indie-pop scene.
Named after the rare phenomenon of flowers bursting across the California desert after heavy rains, Superbloom Is Here Again is an album rooted in the belief that beauty can emerge from even the most difficult circumstances. Across eleven tracks, Billet Doux explores escape, rebirth, love, mortality, vulnerability, and the transformative power of hope.
The album follows a string of acclaimed singles, including “Two Scorpios” and “Maybe Tokyo,” which earned international playlist support from Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music while introducing listeners to the duo’s unique blend of alternative rock energy and cinematic pop ambition.
Recent single “Maybe Tokyo” quickly resonated with critics. Voxwave praised the track’s “powerful bursts of guitars, catchy hooks, and a dreamy, atmospheric texture reminiscent of early 2000s alternative rock,” while noting that Billet Doux “crafts their songs as small cinematic stories.” Earmilk said that “‘Maybe Tokyo’” is a very effective dream-pop track that will definitely be stuck on a loop for anyone who gives it a listen. Black Plastic described the duo as “creating a tender intensity” and praised the song’s “playful sense of excitement, amplified by moments of drama.” For Billet Doux, those themes run throughout the entire record.
Written over the course of several years, Superbloom Is Here Again inhabits a world where mystical creatures coexist with emotional truths, where fantasy becomes a lens through which to understand reality, and where moments of heartbreak often become opportunities for transformation.
The duo formed in Paris in 2022 when singers, songwriters, and multi-instrumentalists Kaycie Chase and Pierre Elgrishi were introduced while working on separate solo projects. Raised on the Californian sounds of Blink-182, Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they immediately discovered an almost instinctive creative connection.
What began as a one-off collaboration quickly evolved into a full artistic partnership and the creation of Billet Doux, a name derived from a 17th-century French expression meaning “secret love letter.” Once used in British literature to describe intimate handwritten notes exchanged between lovers, the phrase perfectly reflects the band’s balance of tenderness, vulnerability, and explosive emotion.
Since signing with acclaimed French label Tôt ou Tard, Billet Doux have rapidly emerged as one of France’s most promising new acts. The duo has opened arena dates for French superstars Julien Doré and Clara Luciani and collaborated with Olivia Merilahti of The Dø, who appears on the album’s standout track “Seahorse.”
Throughout Superbloom Is Here Again, Billet Doux consistently chooses hope over cynicism. Songs about loss become songs about resilience. Stories about escape become stories about self-discovery. Even mortality is approached with wonder rather than fear.
The result is a debut album that feels both intimate and expansive—a collection of songs designed to soften hearts while setting rooms ablaze.
