Pool Girl – Call It What You Want

Multifaceted artist, producer, and DJ Pool Girl returns with her new single ‘Call It What You Want’, a nostalgic, dreamy track infused with dream-pop, shimmering synth arps, and retro indie influences.
Alongside the release, she announces her debut album ‘Melancholic Beach Town’, arriving Summer 2026, capturing the glow and sun-soaked feeling of a European summer.
‘Call It What You Want’ stands as the first glimpse into Pool Girl’s debut album ‘Melancholic Beach Town’. Written while traveling in France and co-produced with French producer and artist Clément Froissart, the single blends hazy surf-rock textures with sleek French synth production, written about the tension of wanting something more from a casual relationship.
“To me, this single really marks a new beginning in my musical journey. I think for a while, some of the music I’ve been writing has felt moodier and a little more heavy, mostly because of the season of life I’ve been in – a lot of uncertainty and loss and figuring out how to let something and someone go. This new chapter feels a little lighter and with much more direction” Pool Girl shares. “Call It What You Want’ is about someone being afraid to admit their deeper feelings. When something is flowing and moving, it can be really scary to allow yourself to let go of all the “what ifs” and simply be open to the idea of falling in love again.”
Deeply inspired by her beach town roots in Carpinteria, CA and her European background, the track moves between two worlds: sun-faded guitars and coastal nostalgia on one side, and dark, electronic elements on the other.
Drawing from the melodic roots of The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and The Strokes, while channeling the dreamlike atmosphere of Beach House and Suki Waterhouse, the record stays grounded in indie sensibility. Lush harmonies and coastal guitar tones drift alongside darker synth elements, creating a sound that feels both sunlit and shadowed. It embraces uncertainty and growth, capturing the beauty of not knowing while learning how to build a stable life in the in-between. That sense of movement, both emotional and sonic, carries through Pool Girl’s upcoming debut album.
This track marks Pool Girl’s return since her 2025 sophomore EP ‘Ultramarine’, which built on the dreamy world she created in the making of her debut EP ‘Trophy Wife’ the year prior. Both projects have drawn widespread acclaim and have blissfully set the tone for Pool Girl’s debut album, which is set to bring together her formative, early works and brand new material that continues to weave that thread.
More is set to come from the artist, who feels plucked from a retro film set in a sun-soaked European country and reimagined for the present day – a world where nostalgia and movement leave listeners suspended in time.
