Jess Macc – Sex, Meds and Therapy

Jess Macc

After more than two decades behind the lens of Australian music, celebrity photographer JESS MACC is used to framing the spotlight, not standing in it. Whether photographing the likes of Kasey Chambers, Bachelor Girl, Troy Cassar-Daley, Danielle Spencer, The Veronicas and Casey Donovan; or working across the industry as a creative, MACC has spent years capturing other artists’ stories.

Now, she steps in front of the camera with her debut album, SEX, MEDS AND THERAPY, released May 15 2026. This is not the story of an emerging artist releasing a first record. It is the story of a 20-year industry veteran finally telling her own.

Sex Meds & Therapy

Produced by Daniel Natoli at A Sharp Recording Studio and Kiln Studios, SEX, MEDS & THERAPY is an eleven-track album that blends alt-country bite, indie-rock energy and raw singer-songwriter intimacy. It moves through themes of love, addiction, vulnerability and resilience – shifting between quiet reflection and full-band release.

Singles ‘CHEMISTRY’, ‘TROUBLED WATERS’ and ‘LOVER’ have already earned coverage from Rolling Stone AU/NZ, including a full In My Room performance session.

But the album’s defining strength lies in its perspective: few debut records arrive with this depth of lived experience behind them.

“Songwriting has been running quietly alongside my whole career. These songs were building in the background for a long time. SEX, MEDS & THERAPY is the moment they finally became a record.”  JESS MACC

Across its eleven tracks, the album traces the emotional terrain of adulthood with unflinching vulnerability and sharp storytelling. From the restless nostalgia of ‘Buses and Trains’ by Bachelor Girl, to the reflective closing piano ballad, ‘THESE DAYS’.

In many ways, SEX, MEDS & THERAPY feels less like a beginning than a long-overdue arrival. A debut album two decades in the making, it marks the moment JESS MACC steps out from behind the camera and fully into the frame.

Across a career spanning photography, filmmaking and creative production, MACC has documented some of Australia’s most celebrated musicians. Her work includes imagery for ARIA award winners such as Missy Higgins, Ben Lee, Jimmy Barnes and Budjerah, as well as producing content for Rolling Stone AU/NZ. She has also built a wider creative ecosystem through Mookie – a creative network, the Macc n Cheese podcast, and the mental health podcast series Outside In for Support Act.
