mary in the junkyard – Candelabra

mary in the junkyard — Clari-Freeman Taylor (vocals, guitar, cello, viola, violin), Saya Barbaglia (Bass, viola, violin, backing vocals) and David Addison (drums) — release “Candelabra,” the second single from their debut album, Role Model Hermit, out July 3rd via AMF Records.

Following the “slow-building track with a wonderful crescendo” (Brooklyn Vegan), “Crash Landing,” “Candelabra” is a plaintive moment of beauty and clarity placing Freeman-Taylor at center stage. Written when she was seventeen, it underlines her innate ability to create something universal out of life’s smallest fragments. Reflecting on the track, Freeman-Taylor says, “‘Candelabra’ was written many years ago, it was one of my first sad songs…it has all of my teenage angst written into it.”
Accompanying the single is an acoustic video featuring Freeman-Taylor in a wig, prompted by a self-dye snafu.
Following the release of the This Old House EP and a range of lauded standalone singles, Role Model Hermit is a collection of dark fables, intricate melodies and moments of revelation comprising one of the most enticing British debuts in recent memory. mary in the junkyard wrote Role Model Hermit between the UK and US and recorded it in London during the summer of 2025 with producer Oli Bayston (Boxed In). Throughout its runtime, the album walks the line between fact and fiction with a real sense of bite and moments of poignancy, while always creeping into the phantasmagoric.
Role Model Hermit showcases a band with full belief in their abilities. As The Face predicted, “mary in the junkyard’s breakout moment beckons.” From extensive tours of the UK and Europe, to a three month North American run supporting Wet Leg where they road tested the new songs, plus a recent KEXP session, mary in the junkyard have been carefully building up to this.
Leading up to the album release, mary in the junkyard play Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles on May 27th and the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on May 31st. This summer, they will play several in-store performances in the US and UK.
