Lindsey Troy – Six Shades Of Grey

Lindsey Troy by Ashley Walters

Lindsey Troy shares “Six Shades of Grey” – her latest stunning solo single that explores mental health, available today via her Little Treehouse Records imprint.

The powerhouse singer and guitarist is best known as one half of the acclaimed LA rock duo Deap Vally, who made their mark with blistering riffs and riotous energy. Her latest track is an exploration of living with obsessive-compulsive disorder and follows her latest singles, “I’ve Seen The Willow Trees” and “Love Is Deeper.” She is also set to headline the Arroyo Secodelic Festival on May 24th at Oblivion in Los Angeles.

“‘Six Shades of Grey’ is a song that explores my very personal and painful experience living with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which I’ve struggled with since the age of 14,” notes Troy. “I wrote this song during one of my darkest hours struggling with this mental illness. It was an extraordinarily difficult and scary period of my life. I eventually ended up spending three months in a partial hospitalization program (PHP) at an OCD treatment center, and am the better for it. Doing the work to treat OCD feels unbelievably scary and counterintuitive, like you’re actively choosing to march toward your doom, so I really had to be at my lowest—with so much to lose—to take that leap of faith. I’ve come so far, but still it’s a daily struggle. I’ve never spoken about OCD and the impact it’s had on my life publicly before, but with the release of this song—which comes from the depths of OCD suffering—I decided I would speak about it.

“Six Shades of Grey” features Leah Zeger (Hans Zimmer, Chappell Roan, Miley Cyrus) on violin and was mixed by Grammy winning engineer Chris Kasych (Vampire Weekend, Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan). It also comes with a video directed by Lindsey’s frequent collaborator, John Stavas (Kacey Musgraves, Sextile, Surfbort).

“Six Shades of Grey” follows Lindsey’s debut solo single “I’ve Seen The Willow Trees” – a track that reveals a softer power, blending her unmistakable voice and emotional depth with an earthy, organic soundscape, and “Love Is Deeper” – a song about deep, unconditional love, intergenerational trauma and complex family dynamics.

The songs received radio and press support from the likes of Rolling Stone, BBC Radio 6, Stereogum, Guitar World, KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, and more.

With these recent singles, Lindsey Troy has cemented herself as a one-of-a-kind artist on the rise. Look for much more from her in the coming months.
