The Army, The Navy – Walls

The Army The Navy by Lucy Black

The Army, The Navy are sonic shapeshifters. The Los Angeles’ duo – comprised of Sasha Goldberg and Maia Ciambriello – make their own rules. Today the astral storytellers share their first single of 2026 – the haunting call-and-response “Walls.”

“I imagine the mind built like a house,” shares Sasha. “The folds of the brain like hallways, windows, walls, ceilings. Decorated subconsciously, painted, adorned with memories, good and bad. Some corners collecting dust and spider webs, never visited anymore. others clean and untouched, waiting to be tainted by something. ‘Walls’ is the aftermath of letting someone take up too much control over your sacred space.”

The duo built the scaffolding of “Walls” with the help of producer Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster, SPELLLING, Toro y Moi). Its slow construction mirrors the lyrics the duo breathily deliver. “But I think you deserve a little more than that,” one sings and the other echoes: “I think I deserve a little more than that.” “Walls” succinctly combines the duo’s unique lived experiences, because their lives are so entangled, “all of her breakups are my breakups, all of my breakups are hers,” Maia shares.

Hailing from the foothills of Mount Tamalpais, which looms over the San Francisco Bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean to the other, the duo have known one another for more or less their whole lives. However, Maia and Sasha only became friends in earnest as undergraduates in New Orleans, where both studied songwriting. Now, the duo live together in Los Angeles, where they keep up the practice born in a tiny dorm room. Day to day, they gather verses in a thick, clothbound notebook known as “the Bible,” where the scribbled idea eventually cohere into songs.

“Walls” follows the band’s 2024 EPs Fruit for Flies and Sugar for Bugs, which caught the attention of many, with their standout single “Vienna (In Memoriam).” A year of headline and supporting tours with Joy Crookes, Dora Jar, Paris Paloma, and more found hundreds of thousands of new fans, over 45M streams, and over 2M playlist adds in 2025 alone.
