Selah Sue & The Gallands – Another Way

Belgian soul-pop icon Selah Sue releases “Another Way” with The Gallands, out now via Because Music.

The opening track from their collaborative album ‘Movin” (20th March 2026) marks a striking new chapter for the artist—a partnership born from instinct, chemistry, and the healing power of music created in communion rather than solitude.

“Another Way” emerged during a period of darkness, yet carries within it the seeds of transformation. Written when Selah Sue was struggling with her mental health, the track became the first piece of evidence that this collaboration with legendary jazz drummer Stéphane Galland and his son Elvin (keyboardist, producer, and composer) would be something profound.

“This song is a call for trust,” Selah Sue explains. “When you’re facing confusion and losing yourself, it searches for a new path—a guiding hand towards a gentler way of being. It speaks about letting go of control and allowing life to show us another way forward.”

When Stéphane and Elvin first played the instrumental composition for Selah Sue, she immersed herself in the music, adding melodies and lyrics. The result gave both Gallands instant goosebumps. They knew immediately they had found something special.

The partnership began in June 2025, when Jazz Middelheim festival in Antwerp gave Stéphane Galland carte blanche. “For the occasion, I wanted to come up with something a little original, and that’s when I had the idea of inviting Selah to join us,” Stéphane recalls. “Elvin and I had long dreamed of having a singer accompany our music. We were thrilled when Selah said yes.”

“To be honest, I wasn’t doing very well when the Gallands contacted me,” admits Selah Sue, who has always been open about her mental health. “My husband encouraged me to give it a try, because he thinks Stéphane Galland is a giant. We all got together at Elvin’s house and I was immediately blown away by what they played for me—it was the first time instrumental music had ever had such an effect on me. It fascinated and galvanized me at the same time. As soon as we started jamming together, instinctively, our first draft was the right one.”

What began as plans for an EP quickly evolved into full album ‘Movin”, recorded over just a few months—a condensed timeframe that reflects the natural chemistry between the three artists. Following her first live album ‘As One’ (December 2025), Selah Sue conceived this project not as a solo effort but surrounded by a family duo of seasoned musicians.

Elvin Galland, who has worked with Damso, Helena, Mentissa, and S.Pri Noir, explains: “These first three tracks have very different styles while remaining coherent, with a real identity. It’s quite rare when that happens! We realized we could have fun with different aesthetics—a very exciting prospect.”

The album features Federico Pecoraro’s bass, guitars, string arrangements, Elvin Galland’s signature Rhodes electric keyboard, and Stéphane Galland’s subtle drumming—all mixed by legendary sound engineer and producer Russell Elevado (Al Green, D’Angelo, The Roots, Kamasi Washington). Refined between various Brussels studios (including the legendary ICP), Elvin’s home studio, and Selah Sue’s house near Leuven, ‘Movin” breathes vitality, hope, and freedom.

Selah Sue’s lyrics reflect her transition from darkness to light across the album’s journey. “My state of mind completely changed between ‘Another Way’, written during a period of depression, and later songs such as ‘Ready to Play’, ‘You & Me’, and ‘Guiding You’, which exude much more lightness and joy. Working with these two did me a world of good, and you can hear it!”

“Each song conveys a specific message that can be summed up as follows: don’t let fear hold you back, don’t avoid your grief, don’t try to control everything,” Selah Sue explains. “On the contrary, you have to keep moving, stop resisting the turmoil, and accept being carried along. I apply these principles to my own life by going for a run every day in nature, whatever the weather!”

Reassured by the prospect of being part of a group rather than shouldering everything alone, Selah Sue regained her serenity and strength during the creative process. “You can clearly hear our three identities on this album, and Selah’s voice ties it all together,” says Elvin.

The trio kicks off their European tour in early March 2026, bringing this music to intimate settings where, in addition to their collaborative tracks, they may revisit a handful of Selah Sue’s older songs—a summit meeting not to be missed.
