S.G. Goodman, Dan Reeder – I’m In Love
Today, S.G. Goodman is proud to present Dan Reeder’s cover of “I’m in Love,” his refreshing take on a standout track from her critically-acclaimed latest album, Planting by the Signs (Slough Water Records / Thirty Tigers).
Reeder’s interpretation brings the song into his own handmade, plainspoken folk world, a testament to the depth and resonance of Goodman’s songwriting.
Reeder recorded and mixed the song at his home studio in Nuremberg, Germany. He had this to say about the process; “We met S.G. at Newport. She’s somebody you can hang out with…AND she writes great songs. It was a real pleasure to record “I’m in Love.”
Planting by the Signs has continued to garner accolades, appearing on best-of 2025 lists at Rolling Stone, NPR, Brooklyn Vegan, No Depression, FLOOD, PopMatters, Aquarium Drunkard, and more. “Snapping Turtle” was named one of NPR’s Best Songs of 2025. Goodman has a steady slate of touring on the books for 2026, including a 24-show run supporting Jesse Welles, as well as stops at Big Ears, Stagecoach, Kerrville Folk Fest, Wilco’s Solid Sound, and more.
Dan Reeder is a renowned American folk musician and visual artist whose work, for more than five decades, has existed at the crossroads of folk tradition, visual art, and DIY invention. Born in 1954 in Lafayette, Louisiana, and raised in California, Reeder relocated to Nuremberg, Germany — a six-month stay that became a lifelong home. From there, he has built a singular creative world: writing songs, making art, and constructing his own instruments, from steel-string guitars and banjos to PVC trombones and eccentric percussion.
In the early 2000s, Reeder burned a CD of his songs and mailed it to John Prine. Prine listened—and personally signed him to Oh Boy Records. Reeder is the longest-running artist currently on the label, and his reputation as one of folk music’s true originals has only deepened over time. His 2024 album Smithereens delivered sharp-witted, compassionate songs that reaffirmed his status as a cult-favorite songwriter. With a devoted fan base that includes Phoebe Bridgers, Maya Hawke, Paul Mescal, and Stephen Colbert, Reeder’s influence quietly spans generations.
S.G. Goodman’s Planting by the Signs is available now on all platforms. The album finds the Kentucky-born singer-songwriter exploring grief, love, and reconciliation through the lens of the ancient Appalachian tradition of planting by the signs. Featuring eleven tracks and vivid, incisive songwriting, the record has been hailed as her finest work to date.
