Ari Lee – Someone For You

ARI LEE continues to carve out a new chapter in her story with latest single, “Someone For You.”
Recognisable for her distinct, velvety vocals and pop melodies, ARI turns inward this time – capturing the nuances of isolation and belonging, while juggling the pressure to please her loved ones.
Just off the back of her two singles “Cruel Lover” and “The Kissing Girl,” “Someone For You” is packed with delicate, catchy lyrics that illustrate the inner-conflict that comes with wanting to please your parents, yet feeling like nothing is ever good enough.
The song opens with a soft, reverberated guitar before ARI’s opening line: “disappear and change my name and face”. Further on the single, ARI shares, “Someone For You’ explores the constant push & pull of trying to morph yourself to fit your loved one’s expectations, to the point where you have completely deserted yourself and wonder if it would be easier to just disappear.
The song doesn’t just ruminate on rejection, however, it also pays homage to the self-awareness that it is one’s own strength that will eventually break the cycle. The narrative of the track ultimately hinges on the bridge, as ARI realises how she has been living “on pieces of approval” but perhaps it is really just her own fault, playfully acknowledging herself “a loser.
Highlighting a more emotional side to ARI LEE’s artist project, she says, “I always felt like a bit of an outsider growing up, and tried on so many different alternate versions of myself hoping that that would make people love me more. I’ve finally learned to love and accept myself, though sometimes it can be disheartening when people you love don’t understand parts of you.”
